1. Intimate Weddings

Destination wedding experts from the 4 corners around the globe have collectively rated this as the number 1 trend. And we will see this trend growing in upcoming weddings.

“Intimacy. After all that has happened over the last year, I see that people are focusing more on the “why” they are getting married, rather than the “how”. Moving forward, weddings will be a lot more personal, intimate, and loving.” Shares Denise O’ Neil, Owner, DeniseLillie Engagements, USA.

“Full wedding weekend experiences for more intimate numbers accompanied by interactive ceremonies and innovative layouts for ceremonies and receptions.” Points Terrica Skaggs, Industry Speaker, Cocktails & Details®, USA.

“Elaborate & customized intimate destination weddings – As guest lists shrink, we can already see the wedding celebrations getting more detailed and personalized for each guest; and this trend is definitely going to be carried forward into 2021. Intimate weddings will be at the forefront but the celebrations will still be on a grand scale.” Shares Trrishanth Sidhwaani, Director, DreamzKrraft – The Wedding Company, India from an Indian viewpoint.

“The wedding industry has experienced a big change due to the COVID pandemic so I think that wedding trends now will turn into more intimate weddings. Couples will get a different approach for their weddings, intimate ceremonies, and receptions with memorable details and focused on the couple´s real essence. Buffets will become a thing of the past due to safety restrictions and biosecurity standards, most couples will choose plated dinners, food trucks, or a simple cake and champagne. Weddings will become sustainable, couples are looking at ways to host responsibly and trying to be as eco-friendly as possible.” Adds Jossy Quezada, Jossy Quezada Wedding Planner, Peru.

Similar sentiments were shared by Abby Ayeh, Owner, Pretty Posh Events, USA. “More intimate, detailed, and personalized weddings! Couples are currently really buying into the concept of an intimate wedding that truly speaks to who they are. Additionally, the cost savings element attached to that idea is also very appealing to them. More curated and personal touches that truly celebrate the couple and those in attendance will be on the rise next year. For instance, I expect to see more personalized escort cards, place settings, favors, etc.”

2. Pantone Color(s) Weddings

“After this moody year, brides will definitely turn to bright and joyful colors!” Says Konstantina Lafara, Wedding Planner, Soo Events, Greece.

Accents of bright colors like Pantone’s Color of the Year – Illuminating Yellow & Grey – will prevail. “The most popular will be a combination of grey and yellow for the Y2021 wedding design.” Points Gayane Khojayan, CEO & Founder, Prestige Wedding Planner, Armenia.

“Accents of bright colors like Pantone’s Color of the Year – Illuminating – will prevail.”Adds Marina Luri-Clark, Owner & Creative Director, Marina Luri Events, USA.

“Capri look-Lemons, yellows, blues and whites- The use of dry flowers and different elements like fruits in the decor- open roses. Less will be more, it will be about the quality things in terms of details than guests, so more intimate weddings with the focus on details that matter to the couple. The symmetrical arrangement, ombre-different colors blended will be seen this year.” Explains Mwai Yeboah, Love From Mwai, UK

Similar sentiments were shared by Patrizia Leonardi, Wedding & Events Planner, Future Emotion of Patrizia Leonardi & Sara Alsalman from Royal Weddings by Sara J, Bahrain & UAE.

3. Micro Weddings

A micro wedding is any ceremony and/or reception with less than 50 guests in total. The flexibility and intimate experience are exactly why they are becoming a trend amidst the COVID situation.

Giving an insight on the type of micro wedding Nilden Gezer,  Luxury Destination Wedding Planner, Nilyum Wedding & Event Design, Turkey shares “In micro weddings; there will be more free, informal, sincere, and fun creative and unique weddings with every detail. To avoid close contact with people in a closed environment, outdoor weddings will be a big trend in 2021.”

“Smaller weddings: couples are opting for more intimate and meaningful celebrations, allowing them to spend more quality time with their guests. 70’s vibes in pastel colors: these trends have been approaching for some time and I think 2021 will be the year they reach their full potential.”Adds Greta Betton, Wedding Planner, Italy.

“Micro-weddings will be so much more popular, so couples would bargain on pampering their guests with better catering services, lush flower arrangements, and decoration!” Says Nancy Giannou, Event Planner, Bon Bon Studio Events, Greece.

“People have learned from the pandemic experience is to handpick their guests and have smaller but higher quality parties and that way enjoy it better. So I believe we will see a change in the number of guests.” Points Batya Heller, Event Planner from Israel.

4. Large On Luxe & Opulence

“The bride and groom are sure to make things even bigger than they had planned.” Says France-based Wedding Planner Marie Chicchirchi. And this is true as this year is going to be huge in decor.

“In 2020, the world witnessed a pause in events in general, whether local or destination-based. 2021, the world will slowly trust in both local & destination weddings, but in intimate numbers, with luxurious designs.” Tells Sara Alsalman, Founder, Royal Weddings by Sara J, Bahrain & UAE.

“Large on luxe, small on the scale: more lavish detail, luxury look, over the top floral and decor with a smaller guest count.” Adds Denise O’ Neil, Owner, Denise Lillie Engagements, USA.

Adjmal Omari, Wedding Planner, Omari Events & Wedding Planner explains it right when he says that this year will be exceptionally exciting. “Last year we all had to take a break and enjoy our time at home, we could all switch off and so we were able to encourage new ideas and our creativity more. I think this mainly affects the decoration. The trend is towards unusual decorations, this could be seen in different table decorations. The tables will look more individual, and the trend will be towards wood: tables made of wood without a tablecloth. You ground yourself again and find the beautiful sides in the natural elements. Another trend, of course, is outdoor weddings. This trend has already come in the last few years and will necessarily take place in 2021. Here, too, you reconnect with nature. I also think that weddings are becoming more exclusive, not so many people will be invited. Instead, the focus is more on the experience itself. There will be many presentations for the eye, lots of decoration, lots of extras, food trucks, show interludes, etc. In 2021, event weddings will have a whole new meaning for guests too. Guests and the bridal couples will be able to enjoy weddings much more and, thanks to the extraordinary situation, also appreciate them much more.”

“Couples won’t be afraid to spend that little bit extra. They’ve been denied their big day for so long and have been apart from friends and family for so long. They’ll want to ensure their wedding day is the best celebration since they’ve had so long to plan it and look forward to it.” Reiterates Ella Robinson, Client & Artist Liasion, Après Ski Bands, France.

5. Eco-Friendly Weddings

“2020 was mostly virtual weddings in 2021 outside and tented weddings are going to be a huge trend. My favorite since they allow you to be more creative.” Highlights  Joann Gregoli, Owner, Elegant Occasions by JoAnn Gregoli, USA.

Speaking about invitations, Puneet Gupta, Director, Puneet Gupta Invitations, India shares “Going the eco-friendly route, the couples are opting in for more sustainable and organic materials. With that, tented weddings are increasingly in demand. “The seed paper invitations are very well appreciated along with fair trade and organic edibles and giveaways accompanied with the invites. Other sustainable mediums preferred are organic wooden peels, recycled handmade papers, textile scraps, etc. Pot plants are also well appreciated by a lot of brides.”

“The trends that will rule 2021 weddings will be Sustainability and Nature!” Reconfirms Kiran Mansharamani, Business Development Manager, Warq Events, Spain.

“There is a preference in being conscious of the style of the wedding celebration. For instance, the food for the catering is ordered from the local fresh market, the flowers are not wasted but donated locally..no use of plastic for example.” Shares Sabrina Piccinin, CEO & Founder, Haute Retreats, Italy.

“In these eco-conscious times we live in, now more than ever, couples are looking at ways to host responsibly. This means cutting back on unnecessary waste and trying to be as eco-friendly as possible.” Explains Simona Parisi, Wedding Planner, Brilliant Wedding Sicily, Italy.

“More couples with go eco, weddings will be smaller and brides will look for the unknown places rather than follow fashion.” Reiterates Adriana Smentek, Wedding Planner, Dazzled, Italy.

With keeping safety in mind, buyouts are emerging as a popular choice among couples to enjoy their wedding in the most private way possible. Other options include remote locations or a villa wedding as suggested by Evelyn Nguyen Van, Head of Sales Groups & Events, Zaya Nurai Island, UAE  “Island Buyouts will be the trend as privacy = safety. Villa Weddings combined with stays for Intimate Weddings with bespoke décor.

Similar views were shared by Mae Mandanlo, Chief Business Development, Zeldiva Luxury, Maldives.

1. Destination Weddings on an exclusive private island will be the new trend! island buy-out for a destination wedding with advance booking.
3. Keeping the wedding guests limited to the closest circle of the bride and groom.

“Destination weddings at resorts offering private residences or exclusive buyouts or Destination Elopements that are romantic and intimate,” says Nancy Barkley, Owner, Honeymoons & Get-A-Ways, USA.

“The Venue has become one of the most important parts of the wedding celebration and we believe in 2021, it will be even more crucial. A private villa with ample outdoor spaces where to enjoy the day of the celebration will be the venue like Villa Balbiano in Lake Como for example.” Points Sabrina Piccinin, CEO & Founder, Haute Retreats, Italy.

“A lot of parties will be in remote or isolated locations in the thought of not letting anyone interfere or bother them and some with the health concerns- not to be involved with other people.” Says Batya Heller, Event Planner from Israel.

“Please don’t hesitate to plan your weddings because of Covid 19. Just take all the precautions and plan your dream wedding. Look at properties and hotels which can mostly be a buyout depending on the number of rooms required.” Adds Pawan Mirchandani, MD, Horizon Wie, India & Dubai.

“Due to the pandemic, there will be smaller to medium size weddings rather than weddings with a massive number of guests. Couples will choose somewhere remote, exclusive/private to host their wedding.” Reiterates Sinly Anfeny, Director/Owner, Bali Wedding Paradise, Indonesia.

7. Elopement

Eloping is firming up as a serious option for thousands of couples in engagement limbo!

“A larger focus on intimate gatherings and elopements where the couple can focus on what they really want rather than accommodating large guest counts.” Says Mariah Milan, Owner, Mariah Milan, LLC, USA.

“Elopement may be one of the most popular wedding trends of Y2021. We’re starting to see many couples plan small affairs or elopements at the onset, rather than dealing with the potential headache and expense of downsizing due to COVID-19 later.” Shares Gayane Khojayan, CEO & Founder, Prestige Wedding Planner, Armenia.

“Elopement Weddings; Intimate Weddings; Weddings on breathtaking landscapes in the open.” Adds Simone Tostes, Founder, Aonde Casar, Brazil.

8. Creative Safety Measures

Safety being the need of the hour, will be taken care of before, during, and after the wedding planning. Planners and couples will try creative ways to implement social distancing during the ceremony.

“Weddings would be more organized with the new normal, adapting to the new laws that would be implemented in different cities/regions.” Explains Satish Punjabi, Director, Impressario Inc Pte Ltd, Singapore.

“Hygiene and protective measures will play a major role in hotels and venues and all supply companies. Strict implementation of social distance and planning and arrangement of seating arrangements accordingly.” Tells Nilden Gezer, Luxury Destination Wedding Planner, Nilyum Wedding & Event Design, Turkey.

“Couples will be more health-conscious when it comes to planning a wedding. Finding silver lining and some unexpected excitement in the shift of plans. Planning a COVID-safe wedding will likely mean the wedding now looks a little (or a lot) different than the couple first envisioned, there will be a need to remind couples that there is some excitement to be found in the change of plans.” Adds Mwai Yeboah, Love From Mwai, UK.

“A Must-Have: The welcome box “keep safe” including personalized hand sanitizers, masks, programs and details, and even take-home favors, allowing guests to experience the warmth of being welcomed into the wedding.” Shares Romina Feraretto, Luxury Wedding Planner, Romina Ferraretto Event Planners, Argentina.

“A safety kit with personalized masks, sanitizers, and face shields for your guests attending your weddings, making them feel like they are cared for and feel safe simultaneously.” Points Bhavnesh Sawhney, Co-founder, FB Celebrations, India

“Giveaways such as personalized masks or favors set in boxes rather than handed out.” Says Jayne Davies, Wedding Manager, Constantinou Bros Athena Beach Hotel, Cyprus.

“Safety precautions omnipresent – With Covid-19 still looming above us, safety will continue to be a priority. Safety protocols like sanitizing materials, testing for all teams and guests before the events, sanitization kits in each room as well as at the venue and usage of masks and face shields are some of which are going to be constants.” Reiterates Trrishanth Sidhwaani, Director, DreamzKrraft – The Wedding Company, India.

9. Reimagined Entertainment

The world is 100% ready to dance again! Ella Robinson, Client & Artist Liasion, Après Ski Bands, France speaks for each of us when she says – “The wedding party! Everyone has been inside for so long and has had to change or cancel their plans – more than once for many couples. Music got us through the lockdowns. Online gigs have been our only source of entertainment – so wedding music and DJs will create the soundtrack to the most significant of days! Memories are made on the dance floor. So choose the band / DJ to get all of your guests up and dancing in this shared moment of absolute joy and celebration! Everyone has been apart for so long – make this moment count and remembered forever.”

“More Performing arts with extensive use of themed designs relevant to the wedding theme. Small group entertainment during weddings. (coming back to the old times regarding music) (string quartet, trio, duo and solo performances. More Performing arts with extensive use of themed designs relevant to the wedding theme.” Adds Roger A-Smith, GM, Music-A, Lebanon.

Similar thoughts were shared by Colette Sullivan, Lead Marketing & Communications, Radisson RED Hotel Dubai Silicon Oasis, UAE. “Livestream, Outdoor, and alternative party concepts. Technology has brought people closer together in 2020, how couples can stream their wedding to family all over the world. 2021 may also see a rise in the number of guests attending, couples can now plan ahead and choose a venue that allows for all their guests to be in a safe and socially distanced environment. Can’t have everyone up on the dance floor? What about Karaoke booths, silent disco grids, or a games room to entertain guests.”

10. Alfresco Weddings

“Alfresco weddings are crawling to be the go-to venues for weddings. The traditional banquet ballroom weddings will soon be a thing of the past. Scenic outdoor venues cover many aspects like for a couple who wanted destination weddings, not being able to travel, its perfect for couples who want to take the eco – friendly and sustainable approach and also ensures that government rules and regulations are being adhered to.” Shares Bhavnesh Sawhney, Co-founder, FB Celebrations, India.

Echoing similar sentiments Nilden Gezer,  Luxury Destination Wedding Planner, Nilyum Wedding & Event Design, Turkey shares – “Outdoor weddings will be huge! We cannot say that it is a big change for weddings and celebrations in Bodrum. We had wonderful weddings and parties in the open air in many boutiques or 5-star hotels with a unique view of the Bodrum peninsula. Weddings are not held in closed areas in Bodrum. For this reason, many foreign couples have preferred Bodrum. Although it is an easily accessible wedding destination with a wide flight network, it has always been a popular destination with its nature, food, air and wonderful sea.”

“More focus on Al Fresco weddings- Outdoor and tropical locations will continue to thrive as a destination wedding choice,” emphasizes Will Medina, Travel Expert, Destination Weddings Expert, LLC, USA.

“Décor is likely to lean towards light and airy feel as outdoor venues will be preferred wherever possible. Couples are more receptive to experimenting with new & different themes and are also gravitating towards the use of fresh flowers and lighter colors.” Adds Trrishanth Sidhwaani, Director, DreamzKrraft – The Wedding Company, India.

11. Extended Celebrations

Who wants to enjoy their wedding across a day when they could opt for a long weekend! As said by Eric Sugiono, Poetyque Events, Indonesia. With micro weddings becoming a trend, couples will look for extra ways to impress and spoil the smaller guest list, and what better way than celebrating for longer. Micro weddings for longer periods is increasingly becoming a new trend.”

“Extended wedding celebrations will be in. We believe the wedding won’t be just for a day event but the future couple will love to enjoy a 3-day or maybe a week where the closest family members if more when possible could share the moment of the wedding celebration. After staying apart during 2020, we believe the wedding event will be a reason to celebrate not only the bride and the groom in their new chapter but life in general.” Beautifully describes Sabrina Piccinin, CEO & Founder, Haute Retreats, Italy.

“Multiple days celebrations are also growing: the couples want to gather their friends and families for a several days festivities: welcome dinner, wedding, brunch, pool parties, farewell dinner or even several celebrations with different groups of guests.” Adds Chloé Atlan, CEO, Aava Wedding, France.

“Small weddings with lots of details will call for weddings that will be at least 3 days of celebration that will really take care of the guest.” Points Guadalupe Alvarrez, Director, Penzi Weddings, Mexico.

“Extended weekend celebrations with smaller guest lists. For couples that have always dreamt of an intimate wedding then 2021 is the year to do it. With fewer people to please and guests to entertain you are free to focus on what is really important to you as a couple. Have a clear vision for how you want your wedding to look and feel, but be willing to be flexible and make adjustments if needed.” Sums up Adam Galwas, Director,  The Wedding Filmmakers Ltd, UK.

12. Hybrid Weddings & Virtual Travel Experience

“Broadcasting wedding ceremonies have become more popular as couples look for ways to share their special day with faraway friends. “As technology improves, more couples will opt to add a Livestream component to their wedding for those guests who can’t travel.” Says Gayane Khojayan, CEO & Founder, Prestige Wedding Planner, Armenia.

“I think hybrid and virtual weddings will become a certifiable norm in 2021. Weddings are celebrations that involve lots of friends and family members and although vaccines will most likely be available for most people sometime this year, there will still be a fair amount of precaution being taken especially where vulnerable family and friends are concerned. We can expect to see a fair amount of guests opting to participate virtually.” Adds Abby Ayeh, Owner, Pretty Posh Events, USA.

Travel Boxes are a unique concept that emerged in 2020! Pioneering the concept, Italy Creative introduced Travel And Shop Experience which is a new food e-commerce concept that offers the finest Italian delicacies to your home and a customized virtual itinerary that can be turned into a real one after the restriction is over! Nona Stanciu, Marketing Manager & Technical Director, Italy Creative thinks that this trend will be huge as it’s a virtual innovative concept and couples would opt for this as a honeymoon or as a gift to the guests.

Yeni Lestari, Director of Sales, Melia Bali also highlighted the fact that Hybrid weddings will be on-trend!

“We can’t think of big celebrations, now it´s time for intimates weddings and Livestreaming weddings will likely continue well into 2021. Technology improves, more couples will opt to add a Livestream component to their wedding for those guests that can’t travel concept lighting,” tells Romina Feraretto, Luxury Wedding Planner, Romina Ferraretto Event Planners, Argentina.

“Enjoy the journey together and create your mood board (palettes, your dream wedding inspiration/ pegs). This will help you in your discussions with suppliers in designing everything about your wedding, ensuring that the milestone reflects you as a couple. For those dreaming of a destination wedding, include hybrid arrangements in consideration of those who will not be able to travel (senior citizen, those who may have comorbidity).” Explains Claire del Rosario-Bernabe, Director of Sales & Marketing-Resorts, Discovery Shores Boracay, Club Paradise Palawan, Philippines.

13. Sentimental Tabletops – Return To Romance

This year will all be about ‘Return To Romance!’ as suggested by Michele Fox Gott, CEO, Center of Attention Events, USA. “Fabric draping will be used more than ever as we return to romance. Think vibrant. We are ready to live a celebrate. Bright happy yellow, tangerine, even pink will the spirits and will be used extensively to lift up the mood. “

“From time to time, we will also see big floral designs that will make you feel like you really are in a garden. It will be among the 2021 trends in elegant flowers in vases, where we will feel the countryside effect with designs that have romantic and modern effects on tables and furniture.” Highlights Nilden Gezer,  Luxury Destination Wedding Planner, Nilyum Wedding & Event Design, Turkey.

“In the sense of floral design use mixed floristics (natural flowers with the artificial one) during bride and groom table and backdrop design and decoration as well as pay more attention to the guests’ table design in the sense of decorations, which helps people to communicate with each other easily.” Shares Narine Sargsyan, Director, Narine Sargsyan Wedding Design Studio, Armenia.

“Sentimental tabletops with more emphasis on flowers and decor.” Says Nancy Giannou, Event Planner, Bon Bon Studio Events, Greece.

“There will be gorgeous fresh floral detailing. Also, I am predicting less dried botanicals and more beautiful fresh blooms than in previous years.” Sums up Megan Truskett, Director of Weddings and Events, The Ungasan Clifftop Resort, Indonesia.

14. Micro Destination Weddings

We all are missing the excitement of having a destination wedding and after a long period of staying at home, Michele Fox Gott, CEO, Center of Attention Events, USA hints that there will be a rise in booking a destination wedding! “People are going to be ready to travel. The biggest change from 2020 to 2021 weddings will be people implementing imaginative alternatives. People may not be able to travel where they want so they can bring the exotic elements to their location.”

“I think weddings will be smaller and destination weddings are the tendency as it implies living a unique experience with family and close friends. After the long year with restrictions, the wedding as an experience is surely the way to go!” Explains Fernanda Silva, CEO, Wedding Luxe, Brazil & Switzerland.

“Micro-weddings at destinations, for sure! As soon as the vaccine is wide-spread, people are going to be craving travel. I see more destination weddings on the horizon, with very small guest counts. We are all craving connection, so I see a move towards a more intentionally curated guest list, with couples really spending time with their guests. More weekend-long wedding vibes, less one-night-only events.” Tells Renee Daolo, Wedding Planner, Moxie Bright Events, USA.

“Once the virus is under control around the world – which may not be until Q4 – I expect to see a return to destination weddings that will spill into 2022 and beyond. And I think they will be at a whole new level, both in terms of where people go and how they celebrate once there.” Adds David Pressman, Producer, David Pressman Events, USA.

“Shorter planning timeframe. While some couples might choose to plan for 2022 and even 2023, more couples will realize that a key benefit of a destination wedding is the need to plan less and no longer- as long as they have the right team. I predict a lot of newly engaged couples opting for a late summer and fall wedding, shortening the planning timeline from the traditional 12-18 months we see to a 6-8 months turn around.” Points Will Medina, Travel Expert, Destination Weddings Expert, LLC, USA.

15. Individual Servings

“Tiny plates at weddings is a trend that will find its way & stay in 2021. Couples are finding creative ways to make this happen and guests love the convenience, if not, they are completely thrilled with the aesthetic and presentation. Mason jar dips and dressing, single-serving grazing boards and food boxes are making their way in.” Says Bhavnesh Sawhney, Co-founder, FB Celebrations, India.

“Plated dinners and individual appetizer trays, natural and elegant decoration with lots of pampas, disco balls, cozy lounges, carpets.” Adds Fernanda Sanchez De La Pena, General Manager, Tailor Made Dreams, Mexico.

Sharing similar sentiments Feyisola Ogunfemi, Owner & Lead Planner, Statuesque Events, USA says “Multi-course, plated dinners for an upscale feel while keeping guests in their seats for COVID safety will be a 2021 trend.”

“Small intimate over-the-top occasions. Craft Catering to include mini wedding cakes and individual servings of everything.” Shares Jennifer Johnson, President, Epic Presentations, St. Barthelmy F.W.I.

16. Flexibility

Flexibility is the need of this hour! Both, the couples and the planners have to be flexible enough to accommodate unanticipated situations as the rules are changing frequently. As Marina Luri-Clark, Owner & Creative Director, Marina Luri Events, USA rightly says “Be mercurial! If 2020 has taught us anything – it’s the need to be flexible and make the best of any situation. Focus on what’s important.”

Trang Le, Managing Director, BLISS Wedding and Events, USA points that we need to take a different approach to Travel and Hospitality with flexibility being the key.

“Be flexible.  Know that everything is changing on a whim.  Be ready to change with times as needed. Know in your heart you are getting married to each other forever.  That is what really matters. The wedding is just a moment, a fantastic life-changing moment.  However, don’t let the moment make or break you.  Be willing to do whatever you have to do to make it happen. That may mean changing the date, limiting the guest count, even moving venues.  These are all small challenges that do not change how much you love each other. ” Beautifully shares Michele Fox Gott, CEO, Center of Attention Events, USA.

“To set up flexibility as a major criterium in their organization (have a fallback date) and strengthen communication networks with guests and providers to maintain the highest level of confidence and motivation.” Adds Bourguignon Sylvian, Managing Director, Chateau De Santeny, France.

“Make two plans. One that is your full event. The other is for 50. It will be important to be just as excited for the 50 person event as that might be the route we have to take this year.” Advices Jason Harper, Director of Culinary, Cocktails and Canapes, Canada.

“Two words – adaptability and flexibility. Giving how uncertain the current event climate is, things can change so I would advise couples to have an open mind about the possibility of change for their big day. The best way to weather all these unexpected elements is to hire professionals who can help them navigate through the uncertainties.” Points Abby Ayeh, Owner, Pretty Posh Events, USA.

“Try to be flexible as rules and restrictions change and keep the important message in mind, that you are getting married to the person you are in love with!” Advices Valarie Falvey, Owner, Kirkbrides, USA.

“Stay flexible! We all want this pandemic to be over, but if 2020 taught us anything, it’s that we don’t have a crystal ball! Make your plans, but stay nimble and grateful as we all navigate life through recovery. Not everyone will feel comfortable traveling right away, and we are all going to go through a period of readjustment. The people who are meant to be with you on your Big Day will be there.” Beautifully reiterates Renee Daola, Wedding Planner, Moxie Bright Events, USA.

“Have an open mind and don’t stick to a set plan! I certainly know that’s easier said than done, however, with everything happening in the world, plans have been known to change, so being adaptable to changes, even for your wedding, is something I feel that every couple needs to be able to do. Everyone has their “dream wedding”, but that idea may not be exactly how you planned it and it will probably be even better than you imagined! Also, HIRE A PLANNER!! Whether your wedding is locally or abroad, having a Wedding Planner will 100% ease any stresses that come with last-minute changes. We can certainly assist and deal with finding you new venues, alternative dates, and dealing with all of your vendors in the event something does happen and you are forced to change your plans. Even if your plans don’t change, having a Wedding Planner will make you feel so much better throughout the planning process and especially the day of. As a planner myself, even on my wedding day in Portugal, I hired a planner to help me with everything and focus on ensuring the day ran smoothly (and, it ensured I wouldn’t be the planner on my wedding, so I could actually ENJOY my day, which I did!)” Beautifully explains Ryan Babiak, Owner, Now Destinations, Canada.

Explaining the importance of insurance in these unprecedented times, Kunal Laungani, Founder, Chapter 2 Events from India says “Having a backup plan or secure insurance. I recommend having insurance. Do not let yourself be stopped from planning, take away your fear and worry.”

17. Hyper-Personalization

Pictures Courtesy: @little.hearts.and.crafts & @nancyray

At its heart, your wedding is about you and your spouse-to-be! And if anything that this pandemic has taught all of us is the value of small things. So let these small things reflect in your wedding!

“The details will be more important than ever – we’ve had time to reflect and realize the little things are so important.” Emphasizes Ella Robinson, Client & Artist Liasion, Après Ski Bands, France.

“Who said intimate weddings can’t be PERSONALISED, SPECIAL, LUXURIOUS & UNIQUE? The new normal might be difficult to adjust to but nothing can crush your spirit when it comes to your wedding. The guest list might have been cut down due to the pandemic but the personalization streak has gone a notch higher. With limited guests and the same budget, couples are looking for personalized wedding invitations, personalized wedding favors, and stationery. Each of the guests that the couple or their family is calling is really special and close to their heart. They want their guests to feel the same way and to be happy while they walk ahead with the couple in this joyous step. Many couples are also opting for personalized e-invites wherein each guest gets an invite with his/her name embedded in the invite. With this thought in mind, the couples are willing to experiment and try out more personalized and bespoke options for their wedding invitation suite.” Tells Puneet Gupta, Director, Puneet Gupta Invitations, India.

“Your wedding is a once in a lifetime experience, it’s not about keeping up with any expectations but reflecting your own style and personality during the event, leaving an unforgettable footprint in every corner and a lifetime memory for you and your loved ones.” Beautifully shares Kiran Mansharamani, Business Development Manager, Warq Events, Spain.

“Wedding sizes have reduced but don’t be disheartened, this gives us more room for customization and being able to take care of each and every guest in a more personal way. We have been able to get very creative from design décor to food and entertainment. We can still make your fairy-tale wedding as special as you imagined it to be.” Adds Bhavnesh Sawhney, Co-founder, FB Celebrations, India.

18. Backyard Weddings

“What a year of changes, cancellations and going with the flow. Backyard weddings have been booming and we expect them to be popular in the upcoming year as well (for safety and comfort). Backyard weddings will rule 2021 and continue to exceed all expectations (with the right wedding planner!) Another trend will be getting a wedding planner! A lot of our newest clients are ones who didn’t have a wedding planner in 2020 and had no clue what to do with the changes, the contracts, the cancellations, etc. Lastly, smaller and more intimate weddings will likely be favored over the big ones! We’ve seen a lot of people be thankful for their B guest list and the fact that they get to enjoy the people they’re with and make time to say hello to each person genuinely!” Says Kristin Phalines, Owner and Wedding and Event Planner, Kyle Michelle Weddings, USA

“Garden themes – lots of backyards and outdoor weddings will be ruling.” Tells Melissa Ward, Owner/Principal Designer, Whimsíque, USA.

19. Focus On Photography & Videography

“An increase in money spent on photography to capture more of the intimacy and love present before, during, and after the wedding, without having to rush through the day to capture a setlist of photos.” Points David Pressman, Producer, David Pressman Events, USA.

“Please, give time to your photographer to take some private shots to preserve your memories.” Adds Sergio Sandona, Photographer, Sérgio Sandoná Photos, Netherlands.

“Film photography is increasing in demand. It’s true to life, timeless, and will grow more precious with time as it’s not dictated by fashion and photoshop filters!” Tells Amelia Soegijono, Fine Art Wedding Photographer from Australia

Similar views were expressed by Maria Milan, Owner, Mariah Milan, LLC, USA as she says -“The increased importance of photography to preserve the moments of the day is the new trend.”

“Be flexible. We are not over COVID yet. Make sure that you celebrate safely and focus on creating memories. The video will make the ultimate comeback.” Sums up Sari Skalnik, Master Wedding Planner, Tropical Weddings & Events, Puerto Rico.

20. Concept Lighting

What’s a wedding without mood lighting? Concept lighting can make your wedding venue glisten in the moonlight and sizzle at sunset. Therefore, it’s no surprise that one of the top wedding trends of the year is mood lighting.

“I believe people will go and be part of a wedding with a different mindset, we will be all more involved in the celebration like it used to be many years ago. It will be not more like going to a party and witness a couple that will celebrate their wedding, but a promise that the future together will be brighter. A celebration of love, we could say everything will be more meaningful. The gifts will be different, I believe the list will go out of fashion. Also, the food will not be served in the buffets, food will be part of the journey …everything will be something special including the ingredients. Everything in the wedding celebration will be extraordinary. I also believe the decor will be different using more lights with a sophisticated allure, clean and elegant decor.” Tells Sabrina Piccinin, CEO & Founder, Haute Retreats, Italy.

On a similar note Romina Ferraretto, Luxury Wedding Planner, Romina Ferraretto Event Planners, Argentina points “Concept Lighting as a huge trend. Deconstructed maximalism: which is all about going big on the little details.”

“Canopy of lights and candles will continue to trend.” Mentions Joann Gregoli, Owner, Elegant Occasions by JoAnn Gregoli, USA.

“Pampas and Greenery Concept Lighting Intimate Ceremonies/Micro Weddings will be the go-to trends” Adds Dóris Costa, Wedding Planner, Fashion Moments, Portugal

“Couples will prefer small events with close family members and friends. Lighting decor, velvet, tailored/personalized details will prevail in 2021 weddings.” Points Marianna Di Paolo, Wedding planner, La Calla Events, Italy.

21. High Fashion Wedding Gowns

Sleek, understated styles are taking a back seat to this bigger, bolder, more-is-more wedding fashion approach. We’re talking statement ball gowns and exaggerated sleeves, bright colors and layers of textures, funky shoes and edgy jumpsuits. Embellishments are the key elements this year—lace, bows,  feathers, sequins, pleats, bows, rhinestones, pearls. They’re on dresses and veils, capes and shawls, matching couples jackets, and on the newly-trending hair accessory: barrettes and combs.

Kia Marie, Owner, Kia Marie Events, USA says that high-fashion designer gowns will make a huge comeback.

“We are seeing couples go a more non-traditional route and opt for colored bridesmaid dresses and colored suits for the groomsmen!  Since many couples holding their formal receptions in 2021 who have already gotten married in 2020, we will see many fun, trendy and non-traditional bridal dresses make appearances throughout the year!” Shares Valarie Falvey, Owner, Kirkbrides, USA.

Last Few Words…

These lovely sentiments from wedding planners paint a beautiful picture for wedding artists and assure us that this year is going to be better!

“2020 taught us that Everything happens for a reason. We overcame 2020 with love, help union, and hope. We made out of desperation an opportunity to celebrate love again, our way, we found solutions together and we will always do. Just have faith!” Beautifully sums up Zeinab Kassem, Event Planner, A Vile, Lebanon.

“Do not let anybody ruin your wedding with COVID Stuff. Keep gathering limited, enjoy events with your loved ones. Forget the stage thing and enjoy every moment.” Shares Harpreet Singh, Managing Director, Souljah Productions, India.

“Well, most of 2020 were canceled or postponed but the biggest fear was the unknown. I think after navigating this challenging year, we all have learned a lot about how to move forward, safely. So 2021 will have it much easier as I expect more relaxed measurements as it relates to the number of guests allowed plus we are hoping the vaccines have a positive impact in reducing the spread of the virus.” Adds Will Medina, Travel Expert, Destination Weddings Expert, LLC, USA.

Stay positive, keep making the magic happen and let’s start this year with a bang! LOVE, POSITIVITY & STRENGTH, from Team DWP!
