Here’s To The Changing Perception Of Indian Weddings In US During 2020: Intimate, Backyard & Socially Responsible

When we think about Indian weddings, these 3 words instantly come to our mind: Big-fat, multiple days, and lavish celebrations. Now that the pandemic has brought over-the-top Indian weddings to a halt, Indian couples living abroad as of 2020 are moving to make their dream wedding come true with a personalized experience and socially responsible masked celebrations. Bianca & Lokesh’s intimate backyard wedding is a classic example that this is possible. The wedding happened on the 27th of September, 2020.

We approached Rita Patel, Owner of Ribha Events from Atlanta, USA who planned, styled and designed this wedding that has shown the world that with little determination, celebrating love is totally possible.

How They Met…

Born and raised in different towns, they ultimately found their way to each other. The bride shares – “We met in November of 2014, on the internet, right when “internet dating” became more mainstream. We met in-person at the end of that month. Our first date was at the botanical gardens in Atlanta, GA. We remember that evening being filled with laughter and constant smiles. Since that evening, there was no turning back! Our relationship started off being long distance; we didn’t go one month without seeing each other. Whether it was coming to Atlanta, Chicago, or Moline, we found a way!” In 2017, Lokesh moved to Atlanta to be closer to Bianca. Goodbye, long-distance! This gave them the opportunity to spend even more time together–which made it clear that they want to spend the rest of their lives together.

The Proposal…

In Oct of 2019, Lokesh proposed to Bianca in Positano, Italy where they were celebrating their 5 year dating anniversary. “As soon as we got engaged, the wedding planning began, and one thing we knew we wanted was a small wedding. Traditionally Indian weddings are large and hold about 300-600 people. Lokesh and I wanted an intimate wedding with family and close friends and as we began planning with our families we soon came to realize that it was not possible. Finally, the year 2020 came, we were about to hit full-time wedding planning mode until this pandemic hit. COVID changed our world upside down. We are very upset about COVID but also very thankful as we could finally have the wedding we always envisioned. A backyard intimate wedding with immediate family! We were sad we couldn’t celebrate with close friends and extended family but they were able to join us virtually throughout the weekend. Definitely a magical weekend we will cherish forever! Thanks to Ribha Events for making our dream wedding come to life!” Adds Bianca.

Safety First!

Safety being the biggest trends, Ribha Events ensured that proper precautions were taken during the ceremony to ensure the well-being of all the guests. The couple always wanted an intimate wedding and COVID-19 granted their wish. There were only 50 guests. Hand sanitizing stations were placed everywhere – including the buffet station – everyone had to sanitize their hands prior to picking up a plate and moving down the line. Temperature and oxygen checks were done for additional safety.

A Gorgeous Fusion…

We don’t want any stress on our wedding day, right? With a mission to shoulder the stress of your big day so you are able to enjoy it with your family and friends, Ribha Events has 20 years of experience in the wedding industry to cater to every small detail of your wedding. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, they specialize in meticulously executing Indian weddings in the US and worldwide.

The backyard had a beautiful palette to which Ribha Events added a touch of a beautiful Italian Garden theme. The decor was elegant classy and minimal. It was a beautiful blend of Indian & Western cultures. The fun of Indian ceremonies like Haldi and Mehendi were seamlessly combined with Western traditions like the first dance, mother-son/father-daughter dance, the first look, and flower girl. The evening witnessed an intimate celebration with the family under festoon lighting. Love, laughter, and happily-ever-after were perfectly reflected on the faces of the bride, groom, and guests.

Love Is Not Cancelled!

The wedding was an inspiration in itself. A gorgeous reminder of how with a little change of plans we can celebrate the enormous magnitude of love. Rita shares her experience while planning this wedding that reaffirms our belief to never give up on love. “This couple and families truly represented that love and relationships do not stop due to the situations we are living in. I hope this event was an inspiration to the couples who have had such disappointments this year. The bottom goal is that they are still getting married on the day they wanted to and still can have an amazing wedding. The most important part is to have great management and vendor teams to ensure that every detail is taken care of and executed.”
