Vera Wang Breaks All Rules For Her Spring 2019 Bridal Collection

The bride who doesn’t wear white…

30 years in the bridal business and Vera Wang is reinventing herself with each season. In the past, we have seen her dive into the ball gown silhouette mirroring today’s royal wedding mania; or use feathers or embellishments like never seen before. But this season, it’s about modernity and colour – bold colour and lots of it.

She skillfully plays with unique hues and textures – from a subtle burst of magenta peeking out from beneath a train to neon grosgrain bows and a crimson corseted gown to tulle-heavy pieces that nodded to the costumes of the Ballets Russes. The 12-piece Spring 2019 Bride collection is derived from her much celebrated hits from seasons past when Wang debuted gowns in nude, black, scarlet, plum, violet and more to much industry controversy. But in line with this era of hyper-feminity and sensual modenity, Wang’s new collection feels like a natural next step in her illustrious career.

The dresses are airy, light and unrestrictive, perfect for a bride who is on her toes. Gowns hand-painted by Rebecca Moses showcase detailing which was a time-consuming process but one Wang considered necessary. “That’s the only way to achieve a luminous, painterly effect—imperfect but nuanced,” she declares.
