Why Couples Will Spend More On 2021-2022 Weddings, According To UK’S Leading Events Planner Bruce Russell

What happens when you have an entire year of lockdown? Yes, you burst out for a never-seen-before celebration of a lifetime. It’s 2021, the promise of vaccines has given couples a renewed sense of optimism. With 2020 being a year of setbacks, couples and planners are ready to revive and don’t mind spending more to make their day a grand affair. We’re talking proper blowouts: glitter galore, bouncing balloons, exquisite bouquets of flowers throughout, sentimental tabletops and classic royalness.

We have London’s leading international wedding planner – Bruce Russell who designs world-class weddings and parties globally to share his insights on couple’s mentality and why we can expect 2021 weddings to be a lavish affair. This debonair wedding planner is known in the luxury wedding market for his innovative creativity, keen eye for detail and bespoke touches that are spellbinding.

Sequel Weddings

The coronavirus has dramatically changed the weddings of many couples in the last year, especially for luxury and destination weddings. Couples are now having quarantine minimonies followed by a larger celebration in 2022. The concept of a sequel wedding isn’t new, but given the current landscape, it is increasingly being used.

“As so many of our couples had to postpone their wedding last year, most are now planning two weddings – a more intimate wedding at home, and a larger destination celebration later this year or in 2022.”

Destination Weddings Are On Again

While we saw couples opting for a local destination wedding for some time, Bruce says that this year, they will not compromise on their big day to go for the best destination wedding spots across the globe. We don’t blame them. Who can resist the gorgeous sunset of the Amalfi Coast or pristine beaches of Bali or luxurious hospitality of the Middle-East?

“Recent wedding inquiries have been from North American couples who are eager to plan a destination wedding. With international borders being closed for almost a year, they are eager to travel again. They may have been planning an event closer to home, but they now want to celebrate abroad.”

More Budget To Capturing The Moment

If there is something that this pandemic has taught all of us is the importance of loved ones. We will see an increase in money spent on photography & videography to capture more of the intimacy and love present before, during, and after the wedding, without having to rush through the day.

“I see our clients spending more on videography and technology – where we might have had two videographers for a destination wedding, we are now looking at teams of 4-5 professionals to capture more detail and provide capabilities for live streaming of the events.”

Opulent Guest Experience With Lavish Details

“I’ve seen an increase in inquiries for intimate weddings of 50 people or less. This doesn’t mean less budget – on the contrary, many of them are spending more on the individual guest experience. I feel that couples will be spending more on details – from menus to florals, entertainment, and the overall experience of their guests. This is likely the first trip many of them will have taken in over a year, and the first time that extended families come together with friends. It has to be extra special!”

Multiple-Day Celebrations

With the world being ready to party again, what better way to celebrate your union than by extending the celebrations?  “What used to be a two- or three-day destination wedding has now grown to four or five days – couples want to spend more leisure time with their family and friends.”

Exclusive Venues

With privacy and safety being the need of the hour, Bruce shares – “Exclusive use venues and private villas are in high demand – couples want to ensure the safety of their guests and are looking for buyouts of hotels or exclusive use of venues and villas, limiting the contact or interaction with outside individuals.”

Safety

As couples globally are navigating these uncertain times, taking the right actions in maintaining the safety of guests is of utmost importance. “We are increasing staff numbers at all the celebrations to ensure that we not only offer a more personal service but limit the interaction between staff and guests. We also have COVID teams for our weddings – testing and tracing all guests and staff on a daily basis to provide additional peace of mind and ensure that any local regulations are being adhered to.”
