Throwback To These 10 Regal Wedding Gowns From The British Royal Family

As we are seeing the love of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s pictures all over the ‘gram, we thought let’s time travel and revisit the royal weddings and look at the most regal wedding dresses in the history of time. From the royal wedding of The Queen in 1947 to Princess Beatrice’s intimate ceremony in 2020, we’re still talking about them all these years later. Here’s a major throwback according to the timeline!

Queen Elizabeth II, 1947

Dress: Norman Hartnell

Her Majesty’s royal lineage made her the Queen, but it was Prince Philip who made her feel like one. He sacrificed and served much for the Queen and country. That’s love. Rest In Peace.

Remembering their wedding day, Elizabeth chose a Duchesse satin, long-sleeved wedding dress with floral embroidery and crystal and pearl appliqués (10,000 pearls, to be exact) designed by Norman Hartnell, who cited as his inspiration Botticelli’s painting “Primavera.” The 13-foot silk train made for quite the entrance and no doubt set royal wedding trends for the future.

Princess Anne,  1973

Dress: Susan Small

Anne chose an embroidered, Tudor-style wedding dress with dramatic long sleeves and a high-neck, designed by Maureen Baker for the label Susan Small. The gown featured pearl beading and was completed with a seven-foot train. The princess wore the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara, lent to her by her mother, the Queen.

Adorably, an embroidered letter ‘A’ & ‘S’ was also visible on the dress.

Sophie Rhys-Jones tied the knot to Queen Elizabeth’s youngest son. For her big day, Sophie selected a long-sleeved gown by British fashion designer Samantha Shaw that was embellished with 325,000 crystals and pearls. Sophie wore a tiara from the Queen’s private collection and a black and white pearl necklace and earrings set designed by her husband as a wedding gift.

Dress: Norman Hartnell

Princess Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi wearing a vintage gown designed by Norman Hartnell which was loaned to her from the Queen.
