Keri and Kapil’s Wedding and the Endless Arabian Nights…

Dubai-based Destination Wedding planners Arun and Rahul of Vivaah, share with us one of their most recent and opulent projects to date, the 3-day Indian wedding extravaganza of Kapil and Keri. After four years of being together, the couple got engaged when Kapil proposed to his sweetheart by the waterfront in Toronto, the same spot where they had their first date. Keri, still in the afterglow of her dream wedding, tells us, ‘’an invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break. How else can a guy from Africa meet a girl in Canada? We met in Toronto and began our story with us being best friends. We continued to work in Canada and decided to make it official by sharing the news with our siblings first and then the parents.’’

The planners were tasked with the ambitious project to organize the destination wedding, complete with every Indian tradition and ritual, while still retaining the grandeur of the golden backdrop of Ras Al Khaimah. For three major ceremonies, the Waldorf Astoria in RAK and its many ballrooms were each tailored to recreate environments that instantly transported their guests to far off lands. The Welcome Lunch took inspirations from the old markets of Arabia which gave the guests an authentic Arabian welcome featuring traditional spice markets, sheesha majlis, Arabic hawkers as well as interactive belly dancers. The traditional sangeet ceremony saw influences of a Royal Indian celebration where the ballroom was transformed into a Maharaja’s Palace using the best in mapping and projection technology to give the guests an experience of having traveled back in time to the Mughal Era. Large murals, elephants and rare ornaments adorned the setting which was highlighted by a performance from Bollywood artists that were flown down for the occasion. The pheras were by the beach where floral elements and water features paved the walkway to the mandap with a breathtaking background of the Arabian Sea. The Whimsical Winter reception whisked off the guests to almost-Arctic like ambience with actual snow fall and ice elements. With the wedding cake descending from the ceiling and beautifully sculpted ice sculptures were the cherry on top.
