Sourcing the wedding venue is the first step and has always been a challenge for couples. Especially after COVID as their priorities and expectations have shifted. There are various factors you must consider like capacity, location, services, catering, etc; to match your vision.

We got in touch with Roger Michel, Co-founder of Bali Beach Glamping to know more about wedding trends and for tips to ease up the venue selection process.

What are some of the new wedding trends that you are seeing in 2022-23?

General Surge in Demand: At the time of writing Villa Vedas had 95 wedding bookings in 2023, which is 10 more than the 85 it had in 2020 before the arrival of Covid, and it is likely to host 120 weddings in 2023. It is fair to say that interest in Bali weddings is greater than ever.

Elopement Weddings: After the Indonesian border reopened in March, our venues saw a surge of wedding bookings just one or two months ahead, as couples sought to get married quickly in case the border closed again. Although this flood of elopement weddings has slowed as the border remained open, elopements are still a feature of the market.

Midweek Weddings: During Covid, the only weddings our venues were able to host were for Indonesian couples, who almost always take weekends. However, with the reopening of the border, our venues are back to hosting at least 50% of Australian and New Zealand couples, who mostly choose midweek nights in order to avail of lower midweek prices and to limit guest lists to family and friends who are willing to take time off work to attend.

Buyout Weddings: Bali Beach Glamping is the only beachfront wedding venue in Bali where you can accommodate 120 of your friends and family in total privacy, and at the venue at a reasonable price, and we have seen such a surge in demand for buyout weddings that we are planning similar venues in Indonesia, Australia and Thailand. Stay tuned!

What are the three things couples are looking for when sourcing their wedding venue?

Because it’s one of the first big decisions you’ll be making, picking out a venue can be a bit intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be if you know what to look for in a wedding venue. Here are three main things to consider:

A unique venue with an incredible vibe: It goes without saying that you want your wedding day to have an overall “feel,” right? So if you’re wanting a laid-back, you will go for a beachside wedding or if you want a vintage wedding, you will opt for a historic venue. At the end of the day, it should match your style and theme.

Price: It’s more than just how much renting the space will cost. You need to plan in advance including design and operations.

Accommodation at the venue: Having the accommodation at the same venue as the ceremony, makes it convenient for the guests. Make sure the capacity fits your event.

What extra services can be offered by the venue to make couples’ experiences memorable?

Whilst the majority of venues have the same kind of offerings, there are some that go the extra mile to offer tailored services. “Having accommodation for 120 of your friends and family at an incredible venue, and with catering services that have to handle hundreds of weddings with good feedback, couples will save time and do not have to worry about finding other catering vendors, and can use the times to focus on planning with their own wedding planner.”

How does it feel to be associated with the 8thannual DWP Congress as Cocktail Partner?

“Villa Vedas and Bali Beach Glamping are thrilled to be hosting the welcome cocktail party, and we look forward to warmly welcoming all the attendees. The destination wedding is riding high again, especially in Bali with our venues smashing pre-Covid booking records. We hope that the DWP Congress will restore spring to the industry’s step!”
