Expert Insights on Bridal Makeup Trends for 2024: Here’s What You Need To Know

Bridal makeup is one of the prerequisites of making the bride look her absolute best on her big day. Every bride invests a lot of time and effort in dreaming about her wedding dress, her footwear, her jewelry and especially about her makeup and hair! A makeup artist can make or break your entire look, and if it’s not right there is no second shot at it. So for all you brides-to-be, we bring to you expert insights on the bridal makeup trends for 2024, so that you leave no stone unturned in making sure you look your glamorous best on your big day!

We are pleased to share with you insights from two leading names in the beauty industry who have carved their niche and have made a name of themselves as the top global hair & makeup artists. Kassaundra Stephens is a renowned MUA based in Paris, France with over two decades of experience, and has worked with celebrities and models for high-end brands such as YSL, Dior, Armani and many others. She has also done the makeup for a lot of brides across the globe making them look like a princess straight out of a fairytale! We have also Caitlyn Meyer who is an award winning MUA and beauty educator based in USA with a career spanning over 17 years. Having worked with celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Jamie Lynn Sigler and many others, Caitlyn also works with multicultural brides who are looking to feel their gorgeous best on their big day!

Celebrities play a huge role in influencing a bride’s wedding look. But sometimes what works for celebrities might not necessarily work for everyone. Well-versed MUAs are of the opinion that celebrities are used to seeing themselves in makeup quite often and have somehow understood what works for them and what does not. Brides or any normal girl on the other hand does not have exposure to wearing the ‘party’ or ‘glam’ makeup so often on a daily basis and thus need to be educated and advised on what would be best suited for them. EVOLUTION OF BRIDAL MAKEUP OVER THE YEARS

We’ve seen a great evolution in bridal makeup over the years. From glitz and glam to minimalistic, we’ve seen it all. The 70s were the start of boho, in the 80s dramatic eyeshadows and strong contouring were a big thing, and then the 90s saw the beginning of the minimalistic era. According to Kassaundra, brides are moving away from cliché bridal looks and choosing artists who also work in fashion. The beauty trends for bridal are more and more based off modern editorial looks. I see more brides choosing looks that are outside the box and I love it!”.  Caitlyn too is of similar opinion and says “over the last few years, we have seen a return to more natural, personalized looks, with a focus on enhancing rather than transforming one’s appearance. In addition to trend cycling, I feel like the rise of social media had a heavy influence, as it allowed brides to access a wide range of inspiration”.

BRIDAL MAKEUP TRENDS THAT WILL RULE THE CHARTS IN 2024

For makeup trends in 2024, Caitlyn feels that we will continue to see natural and radiant looks at the frontline, featuring subtle neutrals, fresh and dewy skin that glows from within, and minimal eyeshadow looks paired with soft liner and fluffy lashes that draw attention to the eyes. While in Kassaundra’s opinion bare skin or second skin makeup as opposed to heavy foundation, bolder colors such as brown & burgundy, and soft and blended bottom eyeliners will be ruling the charts.

EVERGREEN & CLASSIC MAKEUP TRENDS

Makeup trends have been evolving and growing and we have seen a lot of trends in the past years. But there are some trends/styles in makeup that remain evergreen and classic for years to follow. Neutral colors have and will continue to be evergreen for Kassaundra. She feels a neutral palette will always be incorporated in bridal makeup looks. It is timeless and can work for so many skin tones”. For Caitlyn importance on skincare would always be more important as compared to makeup. She believes “natural, glowy skin with subtle definition will always be timeless. Drama can be turned up or down on the eyes or lips, or the coverage can be adjusted to the client’s comfort and needs but great skin will reflect on its own”

DEALING WITH CLIENT EXPECTATIONS

According to Caitlyn she feels everyone should choose a look that feels most authentic to them. That being said, she believes if a client has a vision or request that isn’t her style or in her wheelhouse, she is happy to refer them to someone she feels would be a better fit. Kassaundra too is of the opinion that it is best for MUAs to be transparent with the clients. She tells her clients why a certain look might not work or be best for them. She also lets them know that they have to be happy with the final look and ultimately it is their decision.

TIPS & ADVICES FOR BRIDES-TO-BE

Advice from Kassaundra Stephens for brides-to-be in 2024:

A makeup artist will be the one vendor that you spend the most time with on your wedding day. They are also very much in your close proximity. A good connection is imperative. Always start with a call and see if you click. Also, try to not have unrealistic expectations. Social media has made our jobs incredibly hard as people do not understand the difference between a filter and reality.

Advice from Caitlyn Meyer for brides-to-be in 2024:

Find someone you feel comfortable with. Someone you can talk to, someone you feel seen, heard, and validated by. Of course, it’s important to see yourself/what you’re looking for in their portfolio and to find someone who fits within your budget, but so much of the wedding day experience is the experience itself. You deserve to be surrounded by people you can be yourself around, who you feel comfortable giving feedback to, and who will navigate all the elements of planning with you.
