Amamos Mexico!

Ever since Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor took the first ever high profile Hollywood romantic escapade to the charming little town of Puerto Vallarta in the 60s, the romantic tourism business in Mexico including luxury weddings and honeymoons has never had a dry spell.

Despite weather concerns and the political sensitivity, Mexico City was one of the most visited cities in the world in 2017 and is still among the global cities topping the New York Times’ list of 52 places to visit. The vibrant and constantly evolving nation of Mexico has seen a 44 percent increase in visits by cruise line passengers in the past three years, with 6.12 million expected to disembark on Mexico’s shores this year, according to CNS News, adding a new dimension to their international visitors.

With the influx of funds and resources and an undying passion to achieve excellence in all forms of development, the story of Mexico reviving and claiming its spot as a luxury leader is nothing short of fascinating.

The impact of the flourishing tourism can be seen in the escalation in hotel bookings, which grew by 5.5 percent in March last year, and as many as 32.1 million international tourists arrived in Mexico by air, generating billions of dollars in tourism revenue, which also helped Mexico offset the decrease in oil export.

With the influx of funds and resources and an undying passion to achieve excellence in all forms of development, the story of Mexico reviving and claiming its spot as a luxury leader is nothing short of fascinating. Reportedly, out of the 350,000 couples from around the world that have destination weddings each year, recent studies suggest that nine percent of them do so in Mexico. In the past five years, the country has seen a boom in the number of high profile destination weddings by 50 percent in the country, following a series of celebrity weddings and honeymoons including the globally covered wedding of Olympian Michael Phelps and Maroon Five singer Adam Levine with supermodel Behati Prinsloo.

The efforts of the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) are focussed on building a stronger framework to support Los Cabos Tourism Board, to promote romantic tourism offerings like hosting big events similar to the 5th Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress in Los Cabos, throughout the country and establish its prime position on a global scale.
