Baby, it’s cold outside. Should that stop you from getting married in winter? Hell NO! There are many perks to a winter wedding… less stress, no humidity, more venue & supplier options, better rates and not to forget those romantic photos with snow in the background. But there are also a few things to be sure you look out for. Here’s how you can avoid these five major winter wedding worries and turn your D-Day into a whimsical winter wonderland.
Weather Worries – Not Anymore!

While you won’t have to worry about your outdoor venue being rained out, there is still a serious risk of inclement weather. A snowstorm, for example, can throw a pretty big wrench in your plans. The best way to deal with troublesome weather conditions is to plan ahead.
How To Combat: You should consider picking a single location for both your ceremony and reception. Doing this prevents you and your guests from driving more than necessary in potentially unsafe conditions. Also, having a marquee set up as a backup plan is also a pretty good idea in case of an unexpected downpour, along with some theme-coordinated umbrellas. It’s also a good idea to purchase event insurance with your venue and caterer which will give you and your partner peace of mind. Weather problems? What weather problems?

Sure we love the golden hour wedding pictures. But in winter, the days are significantly shorter during the winter. With a little strategic planning, you shouldn’t have any trouble getting the winter wedding photos you want.
How To Combat: Discuss with your photographer how we can capture the magic despite the chilly atmosphere. Meaning you have to check the sunrise and sunset timings of your wedding day in advance and have it planned accordingly. This may mean you have to see your spouse-to-be a little early. If you’re not doing the first look, make sure to hire a good photographer who can still give you a wow effect during night times and in indoor settings. I mean a trade-off for a sunset picture with a festoon lighting or whimsical fairy lights would be a pretty good deal, yeah?
Flowers Are Expensive – There Are Seasonal Blooms!

Since it’s out of season for many popular blooms, you may have to give up the idea of peonies or daisies in January and go with another flower. If you have your heart set on a specific kind of flower that doesn’t typically bloom during the winter, then you will absolutely have to pay more for it.
How To Combat: Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Choose evergreen elements and winter flowers like amaryllis, paperwhite narcissus, scabiosa or roses. You can also go for fake floral arrangements or check in advance with your florist about the premium price if your mind is stuck on a specific one.

With the temperature dropping, there are a lot of winter wedding problems. Guests can be freezing cold. Cold weather makes skin dry out. But don’t let these problems deter you.
How To Combat: Avoid having your guests freeze by booking portable heaters and make sure you speak to your venue coordinator about added heating if need be. Consider having a cappuccino or hot chocolate bar for your guests to warm up before or after your ceremony. Tell your make-up artist in advance that it might be worse due to the weather. Have a warm, stylish coat for you and your partner that will not only keep the cold at bay but will make an impressive style statement.

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year are some of the biggest holidays of the year. Chances are your guests would have travel plans and may not be able to attend your wedding.
How To Combat: With a bit of foresight, couples can avoid these common problems and find solutions that can work for them and their loved ones. Be sure to send out save the dates well in advance if you’re planning around a major holiday. Traveling, whether by air, car, or train, is difficult for some people in the winter. Be gracious if they decline.
