5 Things To Know Before Starting Wedding Planning

When you start wedding planning, it can be overwhelming trying to put the pieces together and the very dilemma of where to begin can feel like a daunting task. When you get engaged, you are automatically expected to put together a perfect celebration with no experience in event planning and usually very little help. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and to start to hate the entire process, which is unfortunate since your time being engaged is supposed to be a happy time for you and your SO. We thought that you might find the planning process will be a little easier if you know these 5 things before starting your wedding planning.

Set A Budget Before You Begin

Make two cups of warm chamomile tea and sit with your partner in a relaxed environment as this one is the first and most important task to do! As a couple, discuss the finances about who is going to pay for what and how much you both want to dedicate to each section of the wedding be it- catering, decor, cake, photographers, etc. Do your research on the full scope of costs involved and set a workable budget. Once you’ve set a realistic figure, try your best to stick to it.

Trust Your Vendors

Planning is a tedious task and although it can be done by you both, we recommend hiring a wedding planner who will take care of all the aspects operationally. They can help you in selecting your desired venue, establish contacts with your choice of suppliers and overall, take the load off you so you can enjoy the process with ease. The more you trust your vendors and the creatives that you bring on board, the more you will enjoy your wedding.

Decide The Priorities Between Both of You

Sit down with your partner and determine what the three most important aspects of your wedding will be. Is it the venue or a specific wedding date? Locking in a certain wedding photographer or live band? Prioritize those details and be willing to compromise on the rest. This will help you stay within your budget and help you focus your efforts on what matters the most. Making a list of your likes and dislikes, as well as wants and do-not-wants, can help you better review inspiration images, too.

Go With Your Intuition

There are certain tasks that you absolutely feel like doing and there are something you know in your gut that won’t work out. Trust that gut feeling as it stems from experience. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Traditions exist for a reason, but whoever said they were mandatory? If the thought of a first look makes you uncomfortable, then don’t have one. Take it easy. It’s important to remember that there is such a thing as too much inspiration, so it’s a good idea to limit the amount of time you spend looking at photos and ideas in one sitting.

Determine Your Wedding Style

Rustic or chic? Classic or modern? Outdoor garden style or gala ballroom style? Decide your wedding style first so everything else is aligned as per that. Find bridal inspiration through websites, blogs and magazines and bookmark the ones you like. Having a good sense of the type of wedding style you want helps immensely once you start meeting with potential vendors. Don’t overwhelm yourself with all the wedding inspiration that’s out there. Create your moldboard that will help you to figure out what sort of look and feel you really want and keep you aligned with your larger vision.
