Swarovski was founded in 1895 by Czechoslovakian Daniel Swarovski, the son of a glass cutter who managed to complete an apprenticeship at a small glass factory owned by his father. During this time, Daniel followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a masterful and skillfully trained glass-cutter and beginning the production of crystal glass using an electric cutting machine that he himself made. In 1977, Swarovski entered the US jewellery market and opened its first shop in 1980. Their range and collection typically includes crystal glass sculptures, jewellery, couture, home decor and chandeliers. Crystal glass is produced by melting the mixture of quartz sand, minium, potash, and soda at high temperatures; which Swarovski have been able to master through 120 years of craftsmanship and uniquely prolific design. Their attention to detail is beyond compare and their focus on methods of refining crystals incorporates techniques such as beading, pave, bezel and prong setting.

The Swarovski headquarters exists in Wattens, Austria, and has remained there since the company's birth.
