“Viva la Vida”
Just as we reveled in the glory of 2021’s Ultimate Gray and sunny yellow Illuminating and 2022’s Very Peri, it’s now time for the 2023 color! The world’s color authority has spoken, and this year, the smoke that wafted up from the Pantone conclave was tinged a deep, pinkish red: All hail Viva Magenta, Pantone’s 2023 color of the year.
According to Pantone, the color of the year reflects culture and lifestyle trends. Viva Magenta 18-1750 “revels in pure joy, encouraging experimentation and self-expression without restraint, an electrifying, and a boundaryless shade that is manifesting as a stand-out statement,” the company announced on its website this week.

What we are explicitly loving about this color is it is very wedding-y! This shade of red & pink is also the color of love! So we are sure we’ll see a lot of this color in the upcoming year. If you’re looking for some inspiration on how to use this shade, scroll down below as these industry experts have already made use of this romantic shade!
Floral Love

The big question is, do we ever get over flowers at weddings? When it comes to flowers, you will certainly have a lot of options. Choose from deep pink roses, bougainvillea, hibiscus, dahlias, chrysanths, pink gerbera and many more. You can use these florals either to create intimate seating or this giant teddy bear with your and your partner’s initials just as this couple did.
Viva la Vibrant Aisle Setup

Your entrance down the aisle will be one of the most special moments of your wedding ceremony. So you will want to do it right. For mandaps, you can let this color take over the ceiling. For aisles go for opulent berry-hued florals bursting with volume and decorate with chandeliers hanging on top to jazz up the pathway.

For giving this color a dramatic spin, the key is to make one element the focus and surround it with smaller blooms. We love the idea of using a metallic vase for extra elegance. You can make a simple wedding centerpiece look complex by incorporating bold colors and luxe elements. We love the idea of mixing gold and red together. They’ll bring the drama and glamour you’re searching for—without blocking your guests’ view.
The Viva Vivid Dress

The best thing about a viva magenta wedding dress is it can be as lo-fi or as high-impact as you want it to be. A riot of hot pink tulle is a maximalist take on the trend – from voluminous ball gowns to sleek slip dresses. One of Deepika Padukone’s most interesting bridal looks was this floral creation by Sabyasachi, worn at a post-wedding party. Who knew that it would become the color of the year?
Viva Sweet Delights

This color certainly can light up your cake by imparting a moody, whimsical and royal touch. If you want to go all out with this shade, opt for a geode pattern and ombre shades of this color, or if you want to just give the feel of it, opt for a white cake with sugar flowers of this color. In any case, the end result will be gorgeous!
“It is a color we see crossing all areas of design; a color that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude on the part of the consumers, a color that will resonate around the world, a color that reflects what people are looking for, a color that can hope to answer what they feel they need,” said Pantone’s Vice President Laurie Pressman about the selection process.
Happy New Year and Viva Magenta!
