The DWP Effect: Los Cabos Tourism

Just 2 years ago, Los Cabos played host to leading wedding planners from more than 70 countries for the world’s biggest B2B platform for destination weddings, the DWP Congress. Los Cabos Tourism Board left no stone unturned to showcase the best that the destination has to offer with some of the finest creative partners from Mexico. From the opening cocktail reception with the stunning backdrop of the ocean at the breathtaking golf course of Cabo Del Sol to the opulent Gala dinner in the middle of the desert at The Grand Canyon of San Carlos to the closing boho chic after party at the beautiful farm to table restaurant, Acre, the DWP attendees were mesmerised by the luxurious destination and its contrasting charms ! With Del Cabo weddings curating the entire event design and planning, Los Cabos Convention Center reopening its doors to host the 2 day B2B congress and exhibition and the Cabo Azul Resort offering unforgettable personalised stay experiences to the attendees, the DWP Congress 2018 Mexico was definitely one for the books! We met with the Managing Director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board, Rodrigo Esponda recently and reflected on how DWP made a difference to promote the wedding tourism for the destination.

Could you share some figures of wedding tourism for your region?

Weddings represent approximately 5% the market share per segment.

It has been a while since the DWP Congress took place in Los Cabos, how has the experience been of hosting DWP Congress?

It has been nearly 2 years since Los Cabos hosted the DWP Congress and we have received great feedback from the wedding planners in the destination about having a lot more business since the Congress as well as inquiries from companies dedicated to organizing weddings from all over the world.

How did it feel to be associated as the esteemed host partner for the DWP Congress?

We were extremely proud to host one of the most renowned wedding congresses in the world! It was a huge success for the romance sector in Mexico and specifically for our destination.

How has DWP boosted the wedding tourism of your destination?

The destination has been receiving more weddings each year. Our market share has grown in these past two years and we are looking forward to increasing this number in the years to come. Los Cabos Tourism Board will be more focused in the romance sector in 2020. We are convinced that Los Cabos has a lot to offer when it comes to hosting weddings and honeymoons.

Are there any incentives you are offering to promote wedding tourism?

We offer special concessions for our wedding groups depending on the size and the dates. This could be complimentary nights, complimentary upgrades and discounts on the cost of events.

With attendees coming from several countries and experiencing the hospitality of your destination through the DWP Congress, how do you think it has benefitted the destination?

The exposure was great, most people didn’t know Los Cabos and now we are doing business with these incredible planners.
