Anand Rathi, Reels & Frames, India

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
After 500+ weddings, what keeps the magic alive is simple: no two love stories are ever the same. Every celebration brings new emotions, new connections, and moments that can never be repeated, and this is what inspires me every time.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
Every destination has its own charm, but I believe the most meaningful couple photographs are created in places that already hold memories for the couple. Whether it’s a city they first explored together, a favourite holiday destination, or simply somewhere that feels familiar, those locations add an emotional depth that can’t be recreated. When couples feel connected to a place, they are more relaxed, more present, and their emotions naturally shine through.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
If I had to pick one venue, it would be Umaid Bhawan Palace. There’s something about Umaid Bhawan and the energy it holds. Somehow, every couple who walks through its halls ends up looking like they’ve belonged there for generations.

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
I stay inspired by photographing more than just weddings. Fashion and personal projects keep me creatively challenged, while every couple brings a unique story that makes each wedding feel new and meaningful.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
It would be Sicily, Italy. Living in Bali, I naturally gravitate toward coastal landscapes, but what makes Sicily special is the combination of beautiful seaside scenery and timeless architecture. The contrast between the Mediterranean coastline, historic buildings, charming streets, and warm natural light creates endless opportunities for storytelling.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
Villa Balbiano on Lake Como, Italy. The property has an incredible presence. Set directly on the lake, it combines grand European architecture with exquisite marble details, antique furnishings, and beautifully curated interiors. Every room offers a different visual experience, making it a dream location for storytelling through photography. The villa was also featured in House of Gucci, which speaks to its timeless elegance and cinematic quality.

If inspiration had a name, who would it be for you in the wedding industry, and what is it about their work that resonates with you?
Max Wanger. He was one of the photographers who first made me fall in love with wedding photography about 15 years ago. What stood out to me was how different his work felt from everyone else’s. His images have a unique balance of authenticity, emotion, fashion, and artistry.
Ankita & Akash, WeddingNama, India

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
What keeps the magic alive is the fact that no two stories are ever the same. Weddings may follow similar rituals, but the emotions, relationships, energy, and little unscripted moments are always unique.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
If we had to choose just one destination, it would be Switzerland. There’s something incredibly cinematic about it: the dramatic mountains, serene lakes, charming towns, and constantly changing light. It offers an amazing range of landscapes within short distances, which makes it ideal for storytelling.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
One venue that truly stands out is Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. There’s an unmatched grandeur to the space, but what makes it special for us is how beautifully it balances scale with intimacy. The architecture, warm sandstone tones, expansive courtyards, and royal character create an incredibly cinematic backdrop. It’s a venue that naturally adds depth, elegance, and timelessness to every frame,
while still allowing genuine emotions to remain at the center of the story.

Elie Azar, Parazar Productions, Lebanon

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
Each couple brings unique magic to their day, feeding the spark that keeps us going. Since 1993, no two love stories or cultures have been the same. Capturing the emotion of destination weddings is a thrill. It is never just work; it’s always a privilege.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
In today’s connected world, we are spoiled with the options that are available. But instead of choosing a specific location, I would rather highlight the type of destination to choose. My preferred destination is any place with vast, open greenery and layered natural landscaping. Think rolling hills, mature trees, wildflowers, and soft natural light filtering through leaves. Such a setting gives depth, color, and a sense of calm that flatters every couple, regardless of the season, effectively putting the emotion at the center of the imagery.
Ultimately, the location is secondary to the couple. When they’re relaxed, in love, and trusting the process, sparks fly everywhere. But vast greenery gives us the best canvas to work with. It’s alive, it moves, and it never goes out of style.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
I truly reflected on this question and attempted to compile a definitive list, yet each time I narrowed the selection, even more spectacular locations surfaced (not to mention those bespoke, temporary settings crafted for a single celebration). This led me to realize why identifying just one is so challenging. In truth, a venue’s essence is deeply tied to the occasion itself. It’s defined by the meticulous preparation, the unique decor, and, most importantly, the vibrant energy and soul of the couple celebrating their union.

Storytelling

If inspiration had a name, who would it be for you in the wedding industry, and what is it about their work that resonates with you?
The couple standing before me remains my ultimate source of inspiration. Each celebration offers fresh insights into the nuances of family, love, and diverse cultures. If I were to identify a single defining influence, it would be “Trust”: The cumulative trust that my clients have placed in me since 1993. This long-lasting partnership is what motivates me to continuously evolve and approach every new day with a renewed perspective.
Emeka Amafor, Bedge Pictures, Nigeria

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
For me, the magic has always been about the people. Every couple brings a unique story and energy, and no matter how many weddings I photograph, there are always genuine moments I’ve never seen before.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
Every time I think I’ve found my favorite wedding location, another one comes along and changes my mind. Most recently, I documented a wedding in Curaçao, and I was completely blown away by its beauty. The crystal-blue water, endless blue skies, and colorful, almost Lego-like buildings made it feel surreal. It’s an incredible place, and I’d absolutely recommend it.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
Hedsor House. The Victorian architecture, the colorful gardens, the atmosphere, it all came together so perfectly that the final gallery felt like a movie told through photographs.

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
Being trusted to document and tell the love story of two incredible people is always an honour. When the couple ends up becoming friends of the brand, and we get the chance to celebrate milestones with them over and over again, now that is the real magic.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
We fell in love with our own country, Ghana, when we shot a beautiful, intimate wedding in Aburi, the Eastern part of Ghana. Aburi is mountainous with a very beautiful Accra cityscape view, and the sunset on the mountain is something to definitely fall in love with. Given a very clear sky with no rain signs, Aburi is definitely a top pick.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
Somewhere in Ivory Coast, we photographed a wedding, and the church had so much character. The architecture was amazing, and you could definitely spot a thousand photo shots, each of which would be unique.

The editorial artistry excites our creativity, but it’s the human emotions that keep us inspired. Weddings remind us that love expresses itself in countless ways, and having the privilege to witness and preserve moments is what keeps the magic alive.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
Europe is our favourite destination for weddings. Amangiri Utah is one of the best destinations for a couple’s photoshoot because of its breathtaking desert landscape and understated luxury. The architecture, the light, and the vastness of the surroundings create photographs that feel cinematic, editorial, and completely timeless.

Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
I think of all the countries I’ve shot in, I’ll say that I’m a bit conflicted between Portugal and Marrakech. I love them for two different reasons. Sintra, Portugal, is very vintage and timeless. Marrakech is rich in culture and colours. Both of them appeal to me in different ways. They both bring out different sides of my God-given creativity. If I could recommend one country, it would be a place I haven’t really explored, and one that tops my list would be the South of France.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?

Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
Udaipur. If I could send a couple to one place, it would be there without hesitation. Light behind a city built on water does something no styling or set design can replicate. Early morning on Lake Pichola, the palaces catch a gold that feels almost unreal, and by evening everything turns soft and rose-coloured.

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
It’s always love. Every wedding I shoot reminds me how magical it is that I get a front row seat to witness love in the biggest and smallest ways on the most important day of people’s lives. At their core, weddings are a celebration of love.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
Any place that holds importance to the couple and their families ends up adding character to the photos. It could be the home they grew up in, and they decide to get married. It’s always the people who make the photos. Our biggest strength, though, has been balancing both – justifying the scale of a big Indian wedding with the subtlety of the easily missed emotions.

If inspiration had a name, who would it be for you in the wedding industry, and what is it about their work that resonates with you?
José Villa. What resonates with us most about his work is not only the beauty of the images but the sense of calm, restraint, and humanity behind them. His photographs feel timeless without trying to be loud. They remind us that wedding photography does not need to chase every moment or over-direct every emotion. It can be gentle, observant, and deeply intentional. For us, his work is a reminder that elegance is often found in simplicity and that the most lasting photographs are the ones that allow people, light, and emotion to breathe.
Lakshya Chawla, Shutterdown, India

What keeps the magic alive for you after photographing so many weddings?
Every wedding brings new people, energies, emotions, and dynamics. Rituals and events may repeat, but people never do. Their unpredictability, the laughter, tears, pauses, and sudden moments, keeps me curious and deeply in love with wedding photography.
Which destination is your favourite when it comes to wedding/couple photography?
What I find most beautiful is a simple wedding at home, in a backyard, or in a space that truly belongs to the family. That is where the real character comes alive. That is where the bride has grown up, where she has spent years of her life, and from where she is eventually leaving to begin a new chapter. There is a different kind of emotion in the air at home. It feels personal, layered, and deeply real. For me, the best destination is not always the most exotic one. It is the one that holds the most meaning.
One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?

What keeps it alive for me is that no wedding ever feels emotionally the same. Beyond the scale and production, every family has its own energy, relationships, and way of expressing emotion.

If I had to choose one destination, it would probably be Italy. There’s a timelessness to it that works beautifully for wedding and couple photography. One particular wedding venue that added a lot of character to your wedding photos, and where you wouldn’t mind photographing more weddings or couples?
One location that instantly comes to mind is the Pyramids in Egypt. There’s very little in the world that carries that kind of scale, history and atmosphere all at once. As a photographer, you almost don’t need to force anything; the landscape already has so much presence and emotional weight.
