DWP Insider Photographer Powerlist: Asia Pacific, India, Middle East & Africa

Anand Rathi, Reels & Frames, India

Anand is an engineer, an MBA, and a finance guy turned photographer. He started photography as a passion project, learning everything he could from YouTube and blogs. Over time, he gathered the courage to quit corporate finance and started his photography venture called Reels and Frames, based out of Mumbai, India.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? Beyond the camera, I’m a curious soul with a deep love for stories – not just the ones I shoot, but the ones I observe. I’m someone who finds joy in the little things: the perfect workout between the shoots, a new city waiting to be explored, a conversation that lingers longer than expected. I’m a traveler, a thinker, sometimes a philosopher at 2 AM, and always a student of life. At heart, I’m someone who believes that emotions are our greatest currency – and whether I’m behind the lens or just being present in the moment, I try to live with intention, creativity, and gratitude.

Your Favourite destinations for covering wedding shoots, and why?

  • India – India is home. It’s chaos and colour, tradition and modernity – all at once. No two weddings are alike here, and that’s the beauty of it. The energy, emotion, and diversity make it an endless playground for storytelling.
  • Italy is pure elegance. The villas, the lakes, and the vineyards are a dream backdrop for any story waiting to be told.
  • Spain pulses with energy, where every celebration feels like a festival of love and colour.
  • Turkey offers contrasts – the mystique of the East, the flair of the West, and locations that feel straight out of a dream.
  • The UK brings timeless elegance with its regal architecture and venues steeped in history.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? Emotion in its rawest form fuels me—because at Reels & Frames, we capture real moments (fresh, clean, 100% gluten-free), with a side of free food, free travel, and memories worth flying for.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

This image was clicked almost a decade ago when drones had just started to be used in wedding photography. I feel this image truly captures the fun-loving nature of the couple with a unique perspective and was fairly ahead of its time.

If you were to pen your autobiography, what would the title be? “From numbers to narratives: My journey of photography via corporate finance”

Andreas Permadi, Axioo Bali, Indonesia

“Techniques can always be learned, but the soul of a photo undeniably belongs to the photographer.” This is the quote that Andreas always carries in his mind every time he clicks on his camera. The result is a strong connection between moments, emotions, and memories in his photographs.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? Adi is rather a shy guy who gets funnier once things warm up. His slapstick kind of jokes bring smiles and laughter home, all day long. He loves the afternoon cuddle-time with his little family the most, then quickly grabs any camera in reach when the sun somehow casts a wacky pattern on the wall. He likes to keep his photos simple & soothing, bold & strong, captivating & sometimes bizarre.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why?

  • Bali, Indonesia: My home, where I’ve become intimately familiar with every corner and curve. I know how the sun and the sea behave through each season, discovering a variety of tricks and hacks to capture beautiful, memorable photos.
  • Venice, Italy: I’ve only shot a wedding here once, but it carved itself into my memory. The intimacy, heartfelt moments, and that timeless architecture made it truly unforgettable.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? The joy of preserving a couple’s most radiant day and witnessing their happiness ignite when they see their images.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

I was just browsing through my recent shots, and this one caught me. A candid moment of pure joy. I love how the couple radiates happiness; it captures the essence of why I do what I do.

Alongside her husband and partner, Akash, she started WeddingNama with the vision to create wedding stories that are honest, immersive, and timeless. Under their leadership, WeddingNama has grown into a trusted name in luxury wedding storytelling, known for its cinematic style and a team that shares their commitment to excellence and emotion. They’ve had the privilege of documenting love stories across the world, always with a focus on what’s felt, not just seen.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? I’m a dreamer at heart, someone whose imagination often dances beyond the confines of reality. I believe in magic—not the kind found in fairy tales, but the everyday enchantment of genuine connections, spontaneous laughter, and the serendipity of life’s moments.  Beyond the camera, I’m a daughter to incredible parents who instilled in me the values of love and resilience. I’m married to Akash, my supportive, caring, and superhuman husband, whose partnership in life and work has been my anchor. Together, we navigate the beautiful chaos of parenthood, raising our intelligent and curious two-year-old son, who teaches us new perspectives daily.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why?

  • Qasr Al Sarab, Abu Dhabi – For its surreal desert magic
This location feels like a dream — vast dunes, golden light, and a silence that holds something sacred. Shooting here was like capturing poetry in motion.
  • Mexico – For its colour, culture, and celebration
Mexico is electric. The energy, the vibrance, the deeply rooted traditions — every place in Mexico feels ready for a photograph!
  • Kenya – For its soul-stirring nature and raw emotion
Weddings in Kenya have a rhythm of their own, set against sweeping savannahs, golden sunsets, and unexpected wildlife encounters. There’s something grounding and deeply emotional about documenting love in such a primal, powerful setting.
  • Muscat, Oman – For its understated elegance and old-world charm
Oman surprises you. It’s quiet, refined, and breathtakingly beautiful. The architecture, the light, the textures — everything lends itself to cinematic storytelling, especially for couples who want something elegant yet earthy.
  • Australia – For its relaxed vibe and stunning coastlines
Australia offers a beautiful balance of nature and sophistication. Coastal weddings are light-hearted, stylish, and intimate, and we love how the landscapes shift from beaches to vineyards to urban backdrops.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? I’m driven by the responsibility to capture not just images, but stories that will be treasured for generations, stories that feel timeless. Every wedding is unique, and being trusted to tell it through my lens is a constant source of inspiration & purpose!

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

Choosing a single photograph that defines my style is never easy, but this one truly captures the essence of my work — unscripted, honest, raw, yet beautiful. It’s a moment so spontaneous and unchoreographed that it feels incredibly special, a genuine slice of joy frozen in time. You feel for the bride who is being splashed in the face with water, almost as if you were there in her place and can feel that splash yourself!

This image, of the groom playfully throwing water at the bride during their Haldi ceremony, perfectly illustrates the delicate balance between intuition and technical skill required in wedding photography. I don’t shoot in burst mode, so capturing a fleeting moment like this demands pressing the shutter at exactly the right instant.

This photo holds a special place in my heart — it not only won several awards but was also exhibited at the Tokyo Foto Awards, celebrating its impact beyond the wall. It represents everything I strive for: authentic storytelling through a single, powerful frame.

On a Florentine cold rainy night, this couple huddled together united by their love, oblivious of their surrounding, their gaze lost in each other, eyes half closed and fully immersed in the moment. All the elements of this unique photo were there, down to the unexpected backlight and the raindrops scattered all around. This photo reflects the human condition in its purest form, the sensitivity of the photographer in front of their subjects, and the experience of a lifetime spent capturing these happy, intimate moments.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why? Some of my favorite places to photograph weddings are Marrakech, the UK, Italy, and France—each offering its own kind of magic. But Marrakech holds a special place in my heart. There’s something timeless about its warm tones, rich textures, and the dance of light and shadow in the medinas. It’s a city that breathes history and culture, and every frame tells a deeper story. Italy and France bring romance to life with their architecture and golden light, while the UK offers elegance and character in the most unexpected ways. These places don’t just serve as backdrops—they shape the emotion, energy, and beauty of every wedding I capture there.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? The one thing that makes me most passionate about photography is the ability to preserve emotion. It’s more than just capturing beautiful images; it’s about telling stories that people can feel years from now. Telling African love stories around the world.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

I’m curious by nature, always observing, always listening, and I think that’s why photography feels so natural to me. What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? Each wedding—actually, each couple—is unique, so there’s no room for the routine that affects my creativity.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

This photo was taken in front of the Colosseum in Rome, a timeless and powerful symbol of history, strength, and legacy. Capturing a bride here blends themes of eternal love with the grandeur of the past. The bride is not facing the camera; she’s in motion, creating a feeling of freedom, spontaneity, and joy. It feels as if she’s running toward her future, which is metaphorically powerful for a wedding image. To me, this is more than just a wedding photo; it’s a piece of storytelling. It captures contrasts: past and future, permanence and motion, solitude and celebration. That’s what makes it truly special.

If you were to pen your autobiography, what would the title be? “Candid by Nature”

Himanshu Patel, Epic Stories, India

Himanshu Patel is the founder of Epic Stories—a wedding photography and filmmaking company born from a simple dreamto tell real stories that move people. He has captured over 200 weddings around the world, not just through still frames, but through films that echo with emotion and legacy. How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? Behind the camera, I’m just a simple guy who’s endlessly curious about people and emotions. I laugh a lot, cry at emotional speeches, and still get goosebumps when the music swells during a bride’s entry. I believe in energy; if the vibe is good, I’m all in. If someone’s crying happy tears, I’ll probably cry too (and still try to keep the camera steady).

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why?

If I had to name my top five wedding destinations, they’d be Udaipur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Europe, and Bali. The first three—right here in Rajasthan—make up nearly 60% of the weddings we shoot every year. And every single time, I’m reminded why I fell in love with this craft.

The palaces of Udaipur, the regal charm of Jaipur, the golden magic of Jaisalmer, these places aren’t just venues, they are living, breathing characters in your story. The culture, the colours, the royal hospitality—it’s overwhelming in the most beautiful way.

And then comes Europe and Bali—the remaining 40% of my heart and lens. Europe gives you drama, elegance, and that cinematic poetry every filmmaker dreams of. Bali, on the other hand, offers serenity.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? I’m passionate about travel, and this job lets me explore beautiful places, meet amazing people, and capture the love and emotions of couples surrounded by their families.”

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

I had visualized this exact frame even before I got the shot. The setting was cinematic. The symmetry of the trees, the grandeur of the château, and the soft evening light. I remember telling myself, If I could just get them here, even for a moment, this frame would speak for itself. But as is often the case in large-scale weddings, time isn’t something you get much of. Anant and Radhika were heading out to watch Katy Perry perform, and they didn’t pass through this route initially. I thought I had lost the opportunity. But I went back anyway. Something told me not to give up on that frame. And just then, they were returning. I quickly switched to my widest lens and waited. As they were passing, someone happened to stop them, and I politely asked if I could take a photo. They gave me just 10 to 15 seconds. That’s all. But they looked right at me, trusted me, and posed with such grace. The real reward was simply capturing a moment I had imagined in my head and turning it into something timeless.

If you were to pen your autobiography, what would the title be? “‘Against All Pixels’ Breaking norms, capturing moments, and rewriting what success looks like.”

There’s something incredibly meaningful about capturing a fleeting glance, a tear of joy, or a burst of laughter—and knowing that moment will live on forever

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

The magic in this frame lies in how darkness embraced the light — a single backlight carefully placed to halo their love, kissed gently by the ambient glow of traditional flames. Every shimmer on the bride’s lehenga and every glance they shared was sculpted with intention, patience, and poetic lightplay.

Joseph Radhik, Stories By Joseph Radhik, India

Joseph Radhik makes photographs of love, people, and people in love. Joe says his photographs preserve the honesty of a true memory, with the aesthetic of a fantasy. You’d know his work most recently with the internet breaking images of Radhika and Anant Ambani, & Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth’s incredible weddings. Joe leads a team of 15 incredibly skilled artists who call themselves Stories. With a combined experience of more than 500 weddings across the past 15 years, and a collection of 100+ international awards, this collective sets the standard for photography of Indian weddings worldwide. From Virat Kohli to Gigi Hadid, Priyanka Chopra to Rihanna, Adam Levine to Chris Martin, Katrina Kaif to KL Rahul, Joe has captured both candid, real images to stunning portraits. His photos have been featured in international editions of Vogue, Tatler, Netflix, and the Jimmy Fallon show.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? I am a lover of details, the things that make us human and that the things we stay strong in our memories for decades. This is one of my biggest loves in photography, the ability to freeze time with a seemingly tiny piece of information that sparks a memory much, much later. The real me behind the camera is one that is always elated to preserve the memories of the people who trust me with that responsibility. Their joy, their nostalgia, is my biggest gift.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why? Udaipur, Jodhpur, Lake Como, Seychelles, and the bride’s home. The last in this list is the type that will make for the strongest memory for the bride. The rest of this list is just jaw-dropping imagery.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? The fact that I get to be around people at their most vulnerable, and be a part of their biggest days. I photograph the biggest stars as normal people; that is a superpower.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

Because this is an image of a real moment that looks almost posed, it is not directed, it is not spoken, and I am invisible during this moment. The fact that the subjects are two of the most famous people in their country makes it even more special.

This is what weddings are all about — love, chaos, and absolute unfiltered joy.

In one frame, you’ve got the couple in their softest, most romantic moment — and then you’ve got these two kids on either side absolutely stealing the show by being… well, gloriously themselves. No filters, no poses, no retakes. Just real life crashing into romance — and making it even better.

This photo reminds me why I started doing this in the first place. It’s not about perfection. It’s about personality, surprise, and that one frame where everything aligns — the love, the laughter, and the photobomber with their nose pressed to the glass.

If you were to pen your autobiography, what would the title be? “Lights Will Guide You Home — it’s from my favourite song, but also sounds like something a photographer would write in their diary. Light is my tool, home is my compass. Between clicking frames and changing diapers, that’s pretty much the plot of my life.”

It captures everything we love about storytelling — the authenticity of the couple, completely in their moment, and the grandeur of the place surrounding them. But what makes it truly special is how their love became the centerpiece. The venue was stunning, yes, but their connection brought it to life. It’s a reminder that no matter how grand the setting is, it’s the people — their real emotions, their story — that make a frame unforgettable.
If you were to pen your autobiography, what would the title be? “Behind Melon’s Lens: A Tale of Authenticity”

Rajesh Satankar, Knotting Bells, India

Yet, for Rajesh, the true reward lies in capturing what feels real and meaningful.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? I’d define myself as a storyteller and seeker, someone deeply curious about people, culture, and the invisible threads that connect us all. I’ve always been drawn to the meaning behind rituals, traditions, and the emotions they carry. Photography, for me, is more than just an art form; it’s a meditative practice, a way to be present and to honour the spirit of a moment. Whether through Knotting Bells or my personal journeys, I aim to capture not just how things look, but how they feel, the energy, the silence, the soul.

There’s something incredibly powerful about freezing a fleeting moment—a glance, a tear, a quiet smile, and knowing it will hold meaning for someone, years later.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

This moment captures more than beauty—it holds the calm strength of a woman ready to step into a new chapter, full of love, hope, and timeless grace.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? It’s the power to freeze time. That one click can hold a feeling, a story, a connection — something so fleeting yet so permanent. What drives me is knowing that I’m capturing moments that people will look back on years later and feel all over again.

Which is a photo close to your heart & why?

This frame captures everything I love about photography — drama, movement, architecture, and storytelling. The low angle draws you into her world, making her look powerful and radiant. The veil frozen mid-air adds a sense of spontaneity and life, while the heritage backdrop grounds it in timeless elegance. It’s not just a photo — it’s a moment of grace, strength, and beauty captured in perfect harmony.

Ruben Thomas, Magic Motion Media, India

Ruben Bijy is the heart behind Magic Motion Media. What began as a simple passion during his engineering days, holding a camera and capturing moments, has now grown into a full-fledged journey of storytelling through wedding films. From those early shoots to building a team of incredibly talented creatives, his mission has always been the same: to craft timeless, cinematic experiences that celebrate love in its purest form.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? Beyond the realm of my profession, I’d define myself as a storyteller at heart — not just through films, but in the way I connect with people and find meaning in everyday moments. I’m someone who values authenticity, deep conversations, and shared laughter. The real me is someone who enjoys long drives, soulful music, and moments of stillness.

Your Favorite destinations for covering weddings and why?

  • London: There’s something timeless about London. The architecture, the overcast skies, the mix of old-world charm and modern elegance — it all creates a beautiful cinematic backdrop.
  • Armenia: Armenia is raw, rustic, and incredibly soulful. The landscapes, the light, and the warmth of the people offer an earthy aesthetic that’s unlike anywhere else.
  • Istanbul: The meeting point of East and West. Istanbul has layers of culture, colour, and texture that make every frame rich with depth. From its grand mosques to the bustling streets, it’s a dream to shoot here.
  • Krabi – For me, Krabi is serenity captured in visuals. The dramatic cliffs, turquoise waters, and soft golden light make it a natural canvas for romantic, dreamlike wedding films. It’s perfect for intimate beach weddings.
  • Dubai – Dubai is where tradition meets luxury. From desert dunes to ultra-modern skylines, it offers stunning contrasts. The diversity of venues and the grandeur of celebrations here always push me to think creatively and shoot with fresh eyes

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? The one thing that makes me truly passionate about my work is the power to preserve emotions. Capturing raw, honest moments — a tear, a laugh, a stolen glance — and turning them into timeless memories that people can relive for years… that’s what drives me

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

It’s hard to choose just one, but this particular frame holds a special place in my heart. Not because of the grandeur or the location, but because of the emotion it captures. For me, the best work is always about feeling, and this moment says everything without a single word.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? Celebration of Love

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

Why we chose this image is mainly because of the story behind this image. Alexis & Chase, originally from the States, eloped in Pienza, in southern Tuscany. She has been a major fan of the movie Gladiator, and it was their first date watching this movie. So the couple chose to have their elopement on the very grounds where the film was made.

Ryan Ortega, Ryan Ortega Photo, The Philippines

Ryan Ortega from the Philippines has been shooting weddings for 15 years now, all across the world, in almost 40 countries. He believes that, beyond the beauty of every destination, love should always take the spotlight. Through the lens, he can find and understand the intricacies of love in all its shades and colors, throughout all cultures.

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? Behind the camera, I am simply an individual who seeks the adventure of life and its frivolity. I believe that, in every professional and personal endeavor, a certain tone of togetherness should be achieved. In my case, I am the uniting body of both myself, my team, and clients, bringing out the most personal experiences that make their journey to union memorable. I love food and travel, which, alternatively, fuel my drive to create these moments. Their images should not only show but also make them reminisce and feel. This vividly reflects who I am behind it all.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why?

  • United States of America (USA) — Various cultures, space to experiment with concepts, authenticity in flavors and scenery, easy to navigate, availability of flights
  • Australia and New Zealand— Laid back tone, varying landscapes, perfect for more intimate weddings and adventurous couples
  • Iceland — Always has been and always will be awe-inspiring, still challenging
  • Japan — Good food and easy to navigate, different settings and seasons to explore
  • Portugal — Unexploited and unexplored, very deep cultural elements

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? The marriage of two individuals is itself.

Which is a photo close to your heart and why?

I consider this to be my best and most personal work to date because it best represents who I am, what I wish to achieve, and how I think photos should make us feel. Regardless of race, belief, bias, and other external factors that distinguish us from each other, this image makes you feel everything—love, celebration, and comfort, among others. It represents how I carefully capture intimate yet loud moments within uncontrolled settings like this. Nothing is forced. The emotion is raw and uncalculated.

Siddharth Sharma, House On The Clouds, India

How would you like to define yourself beyond the realm of your profession? Who is the real you behind the camera? I was born and raised in a simple middle-class family with no history of anyone in the creative field, so it was a tough decision to leave a 9-5 job for a profession that was not quite mainstream. I am an introvert and not quite a person who enjoys being surrounded by strangers, but surprisingly, at a wedding with a camera in my hands, I feel at ease and enjoy experiencing human emotions in different shapes and forms.

Your Favourite destinations for covering weddings and why?

  • Homes are my favorite destination for a wedding. There is an unhindered flow of emotions that can only happen when you are getting married in your home.
  • Tuscany is one of my favorites – the landscape, the calmness of the space.
  • Third is Udaipur – the city has such a strong character of its own, with the hospitality and palatial vibe.
  • Fourth will be Kerala – I feel Kerala is a very underrated wedding destination and has so much unique character of its own. Personally, I love travelling to Kerala and love shooting weddings there.
  • Fifth is Lake Como – breathtaking visuals, luxurious venues, classy aesthetics.

What is the ONE thing about your work that makes you so passionate about it? Human Emotions

It’s not exactly about this photo, but this wedding itself. This wedding was a big milestone for us and also one of our best works to date for both photo and film.
