Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Can’t Stop Gushing In Their First Interview Together

Meghan hardly let Harry finish proposing!

In their first ever sit down interview with the BBC, after announcing their engagement earlier that day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared details on how the royal proposed to her, how the couple dealt with the constant media scrutiny and the extraordinary story behind that gorgeous engagement ring Meghan is wearing.

The young royal chose a “cozy night” earlier this month at their Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace to pop the question to his girlfriend of 16 months, as the pair were setting up dinner and “trying to roast a chicken”. “It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got down on one knee,” says the American Actor. “As a matter of fact, I could barely let you finish proposing. I said, ‘Can I say yes now?'” The pair, with their fingers intertwined, giggled as they recalled the moment. Harry continued, “There was hugs and I had the ring in my finger. I was like, ‘Can I give you the ring?’ She goes, ‘Oh, yes! The ring!'”

It was love at first sight for the couple, who were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. They reveal that their fourth date was under the stars in a tent in Botswana. Sharing details of their courtship, Harry gushes that the “beautiful” Ms Markle “just tripped and fell into my life”. Not only did they spend quality time with each others families, Meghan says that she got to know Queen Elizabeth personally and says that she is “an incredible woman”.

The most emotional revelation of the 20 min personal interview, has to be the one where Prince Harry talks about designing Meghan’s engagement ring, a diamond stone he sourced from Botswana ( as a tribute to where they fell in love) set on a yellow gold band (Meghan’s favorite) which is surrounded by diamonds he selected from his mother, the late Princess Diana’s jewellery collection. The bride-to-be says that it is Harry’s thoughtfulness that counts. As she never had a chance to meet his mother, she said, it was “so important to me… to know that she’s a part of this with us”. On being asked if Harry thought his mum would approve of Markle, Harry said, “They’d be thick as thieves, without question. I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, so excited for me but then, as I said, she would’ve probably been best friends with Meghan.”
