Minimony Vs. Microwedding- How To Choose The Right One For You!

2020 has brought many changes to our lives and how we do things. With 84% of 2020 weddings been postponed, couples are choosing to move forward with their celebrations, however, with a whole new approach to their wedding day. With all the changes to gatherings due to COVID, these two terms are all the buzz. So here is your guide to what exactly is a Minimony and a Micro Wedding and how the two terms differ.

What Is Micro Wedding? – Small Yet Grand!

A micro wedding is any ceremony and/or reception with less than 50 guests in total. Couples often combine an elopement and a reception to create their micro wedding, but you have the option to do both with a smaller party. However, as the couple planning the wedding, you have the power to define what micro means to you. It’s more about a mindset than a precise number of seats at the dinner table. The flexibility and intimate experience are exactly why they are becoming a trend amidst the COVID situation. Let us make it crystal clear – micro does not mean a small wedding. You can splurge on more as the guest list is less, make it more luxe and intimate to personalize it more according to your taste and personality. Micro-weddings often fall into the category of a luxe wedding.

Who should do it?  A micro wedding is ideal for couples who want a more personal affair and yet aim to splurge on the little details. Micro weddings have become increasingly popular as state and local officials have restricted the number of people allowed at events. The budget for details is available due to the limited guest count. In turn, the couple goes big in areas such as the wedding dress, over the top florals, a five-course brunch or dinner, and a top-shelf bar.

A minimony is a mini ceremony held with your loved ones, or simply a moment of commitment shared between yourselves. It typically consists of a party of up to 10 people, usually close family and friends. Minimonies are perfect for the couple whoa are eager to solidify their union and don’t mind pushing off the bigger ceremony to a later date – truly a perfect compromise for the times of COVID-19. Note that a minimony does consist of an officiant and is, therefore, a legal wedding. This is important, as you won’t need to go through the legal process again at the second event. All this being said, a minimony is essentially a snapshot of what your larger wedding will be.

Minimony has 2 parts: a commitment ceremony with a guest list of about 10 people and then a sequel wedding that involves a bigger celebration further down the line.

Sequel Wedding: Simply put, a sequel wedding is when a couple has multiple ceremonies. In the current times, the definition has evolved to conducting a ceremony once the pandemic is over.

Who should do it? More and more couples are opting for minimonies where they say “I do” now and plan their celebrations in 2021. Couples who want to celebrate their original dates or couples who do not want to cut down on their wedding guests or compromise on their original wedding plan should opt for this option.

With smaller weddings, the special meaning is more about the loved ones that are going to be attending. It might be the safest bet down the line. As gathering limits expand, going for a micro wedding or a minimony is a rational choice to go ahead with your life and not let this pandemic put a halt on your celebrations.
