Brittany & Boon are a beautiful couple sharing true love and the ultimate proposal. From awkward first messages to heartfelt vows, they share their journey down the aisle. Read on about their story thus far and see how their brilliant planner Bonnie Chase of Bliss Events and her team worked their magic to give the couple a personalized wedding experience.
How They Met
The short version is simply through a dating app. But who needs that when the full story is so much more interesting!
When Haroon (aks Boon) first shot his shot, he, unfortunately, did not strike! But after Brittany missed his first message, Haroon did not give up. He found her on LinkedIn (perhaps not your typical future wife scouting platform, but hey, it did the trick!) and wrote arguably the most polite e-mail ever sent, in hopes of a reply. Although he admits to feeling uncomfortably creepy about e-stalking her, they soon met up for their first date – dinner and a night of comedy. Having a great time together, neither of them wanted the night to end, and Brittany soon realized there was something special about Boon. They have been inseparable ever since!
The Proposal
Their first travel together as a couple was to Cabo in 2018. Boon knew then, that that was where he wanted to propose. And as if all the stars were aligned for the moment, Boon had the perfect setup for a remarkable proposal without compromising on the surprise. Over a year later, he found the perfect opportunity to fly back with a few friends and family; celebrating Brittany’s 30th bash, conveniently falling on New Year’s Eve!
Being a fashion and lifestyle blogger, Brittany didn’t suspect when Boon hired a boat to go round the bay and some local photographers to capture the extravagant celebration, under the impression it was all for the blog. There were multiple outfit changes planned as part of the blog photoshoot facade, with the final set involving a prop provided by the photographers. Nesting doll-style, the large wrapped present hid a series of smaller boxes that finally revealed an empty ring case.
When Brittany finally turned to Boon, he reached into his pocket to pull out the stunning ring, got down on one knee, and cheekily said “you have to say yes first…” He’d tell you what he said if he could remember, but Brittany accepted through tears, the Mexican sunset silhouetting them both. Uhm… Excuse me, could it get any more romantic? We think not!
The Venue & Date
Boon and Brittany have been legally married for just over a year now. They decided to tie the knot in a Vegas-style chapel not far from where they live, before celebrating in a grand affair with friends and family. The wedding celebration took place at the gorgeous Flora Farms in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on the 13th of November last year. Having started their adventures here together, Cabo was undeniably the best wedding destination they could finalize. And with the perfect weather and the breathtaking Mexican sky, having a wedding outdoor was the right way to go.
Inspiration Behind The Theme
“We wanted our wedding to represent both Boon’s Pakistani culture and our love for Mexico. As a result, we had two separate ceremonies. The first event was a traditional Pakistani Nikah ceremony. For our western-style ceremony at Flora Farms, we really wanted to play up the lushness of the venue and make our guests feel like they were in an enchanted garden. Bliss Events helped us hone in on the perfect, muted ivory & blush tones that ran through our florals, and decor with gold accents that really made everything pop. We wanted a luxe contrast with the natural setting and Bliss Events executed it perfectly.” Brittany shares.
The Nikah Ceremony
Brittany explained that the Nikah was originally set to take place in Los Angeles, but the venue they booked had unexpectedly shut down just four months before the big day. And despite the last-minute change, the Bliss Events team was quick with a plan B and saved the day! The ceremony was finally held at Esperanza Resort, Los Cabos, and it all turned out to be absolutely magical.
Brittany’s bridal look for the ceremony was truly a showstopper. Her first thought was to find something in a lighter shade like blush, which to her felt more ‘bridal’. But as soon as she slipped into red, she knew that had to be THE color. Weighing nearly 20 lbs due to the heavy beadwork, Brittany had her lehnga designed to her taste and shipped from Pakistan. To complement her look, Brittany wore jewelry gifted by her mother-in-law. A necklace she’d had for over thirty years, along with a headpiece, earrings, and a ring made to match. Completing the ensemble with a bronze tint, smokey eyes, and dark lips, her makeup was done to perfection.
Embracing the Pakistani culture for her bridal entrance, she danced to Laung Laachi, a song her mother-in-law helped pick out. Boon made a traditional entry on horseback, accompanied by a dhol player. The venue decor for their Nikah was a perfect mix of South Asian and Mexican influences, including strings of colorful papel picado, a bunch of lit-up fairy lights and lanterns, and chic furniture. Plus of course, the best part of these cultures; lots of music and dancing!
To make the occasion all the more memorable, their Nikah was officiated by the groom’s brother. He explained the significance of each part of the ceremony to guests, so everyone felt as close, connected, and involved as possible the entire time.
Ceremony 2.0
Bridal look #2 was different, yet equally stunning, with warm-toned smokey eyes, glowing skin, neutral lips, and hair worn down in perfect S waves. Both looks were beautifully executed, allowing Brittany’s outfits, hair, and makeup to have their moments without overshadowing the other.
Haroon and Brittany wanted to find a balance between traditions and modern elements. So after having a traditional Pakistani ceremony, they brought in their own ideas for the western wedding. For starters, the bride decided to walk herself down the aisle! And while many couples want their guests to take in the entire experience and go unplugged, these two encouraged everyone to whip out their phones and share photos on the Gram using the hashtag #salaamtosaleem and even had their wedding party DANCE down the aisle for their entry. Now that’s fun!
Their first dance was also quite a statement moment, with a unique song selection and some unexpected moves. “I’ve always been obsessed with Beyonce’s XO I think it’s such an underrated romantic song, so that was part one of our dance. We also wanted to have something fun and Latin to end, so we learned some salsa to dance to Suavamente as our finale” Brittany further shares.
When asked about their favorite wedding moments, Boon said his numero uno had to be seeing Brittany for the first time in her wedding gown. “They had gone through great lengths to honor the tradition of the groom not seeing the bride until just prior to the ceremony, and it most certainly paid off!” Shares planner Bonnie Chase of Bliss Events. A close second for the groom was seeing his wife in her jaw-dropping lehnga, and thirdly, having their guests partake in Pakistani culture and having both families bond over the marriage.
For Brittany, walking into their reception, seeing all their friends and family seated under twinkling lights, and seeing their vision come to life was a moment she will always remember.
