A Modern Wedding At Los Cabos’ Newest Eco-Chic Venue With Decor Inspired By The Couple’s Playful Personalities

On the 6th of August 2022, Magen and Mickey tied the knot in the most beautiful of places: Los Cabos, Mexico, celebrating their love with an organic landscape, playful colors, and their closest loved ones. Here’s a glimpse of their sweet love, as shared by their planner Alex Moreau of XO Moreau Weddings, with timeless memories brilliantly captured by Rachel Azzaro.

Their Story

Mickey and Magen are high school non-sweet hearts with a unique love story that proves just how perfect they are for each other! Though they often crossed paths on school grounds, it wasn’t until years later that their love truly blossomed. They re-met in college during senior year at a haunted house in Austin, Texas, through Mickey’s twin sister Molly. And after crushing on each other for years, the two finally got together in the summer of 2018! When the time came for Magen to pursue her grads degree, she and Mickey jumped into a long-distance relationship for a while before he moved to Houston to be with her. And we’re so glad he did because the pandemic is perhaps not long-distance-friendly!

In 2020 Mickey and Magen moved to Austin, and they did their best to navigate a pandemic, living together, and a new city. Before moving to Austin, Mickey received their engagement ring from Uptown Diamond in Houston, where it was custom-made with the late Rick Antona. Mickey then spent months driving to different spots in Austin, trying to pick the perfect city line to propose in front of. In November of 2021, Mickey proposed to Magen with the help of a close friend and photographer, Rachel Azzaro, who also shot their engagement session and wedding day. Together, they set Magen up with a fake photoshoot and play, which actually led to a second and very real photoshoot where Mickey proposed in front of the city they call home.

The Proposal

Ready for one of the sweetest proposal stories you’re going to read? Well, here goes! A crazy sequence of events unfolded on a special day, as shared by the couple’s official and lovable third-wheeling specialist, Rachel Azzaro herself!

Friday, July 30th, at 10 pm, I got a text from Mickey asking if I was booked for the year. That started our weekly and sometimes daily texting, perfecting his proposal to Magen. He wanted it to be exactly what Magen had always desired it to be. What I realized and what I told Mickey towards the end of our planning was, “what will make this perfect for Magen is that YOU will be asking her to be your wife.”

But I’ll go ahead and tell you how it happened… I set up a “fake” photo shoot “for content” at the Blanton Museum of Art (pictures of said photoshoot sprinkled in), and then we would end our session, and that was it for me. So she thought. Mickey told Magen he “had a hook up” for tickets at the Long Center in Austin for a Shakespeare show. THEN THEY GOT STUCK IN CLOSE TO AN HOUR OF TRAFFIC, AND THE SUN HAD SET. We were texting back and forth, and I was assuring him that everything was fine and not to worry. BUT we were running out of time, the sun had set, and our desired lighting (blue hour) had long gone. He finally got out of traffic, and I got the text “Just Parked.” I walked behind them, PRAYING she didn’t turn around and then hid.

He got down on one knee and asked Magen to marry him, and she said YES! We screamed, we hugged, we popped some champagne, and it was PERFECT!

Congratulations to one of my absolute favorite couples!!!!!!!!!!!

Magen and Mickey’s engagement session was shot in San Marcos, Texas, in the most stunningly creative way that has us falling in love with everything about it! Think we’re being dramatic? Have a look yourself!

For the wedding, Magen and Mickey chose the Baja Luna, a new and eco-chic venue in San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Mexico. The one-of-a-kind space has gorgeous aesthetics, a boutique-style setting with traditional Baja charm, and a sustainable farm-to-table experience with incredible catering services. With a unique design and a mindful concept, the ceremony space is all things contemporary, perfect for couples looking to make a statement with their wedding venue.

Inspiration Behind the Decor

To complement the star couple’s personalities, Alex and her team worked with Remi + Gold on a vibrant candy-red color palette, adding pops of pinks and a chartreuse flair. Guests were asked to dress in shades of tan that allowed the organic vibes of the venue’s neutral-toned structures and manicured gardens to shine through. “Our ceremony also included our chartreuse tones in a really unique way: vertical fabric banners with the couple’s newly shared last name gently blowing in the background of their vows. Magen’s bouquet had a long custom ribbon in white matching our fabric banners.” Shares Alex.

“One of the most important elements of the entire evening was, of course, the bar! A wooden tipi with macrame chandeliers from Baja Boutique Rental Company drew guests to our favorite social spot. Magen and Mickey are tequila enthusiasts, so we incorporated a tequila tasting, where our mixologists educated guests on the aging and barreling processes. After sipping some tequila, our chocolate clams and cold coconut soup were displayed in a beautiful canoe for guests to enjoy.”

Baja Luna’s incredible culinary team served a delicious family-style meal surrounded by candlelight and flame sconces. The centrally located dance floor had a vinyl decal, also of their last name, to define the space. Our churro cart featuring freshly fried churros with a variety of fillings kept guests going as they danced the night away to the sound of DLT Events.”

“Embracing the natural beauty of Los Cabos, Magen and Mickey’s playful personalities were infused into the wedding with a dynamic color palette, personalized guest experience including endless tequila and gnocchi, and endless jokes and laughs.”
