What experiences Atlantis can offer for wedding guests in the new normal?
2021 has been a transformative year for the resort, so we are in the fortunate position that we have a vast array of brand-new experiences to offer guests to Atlantis. We have recently completed a $3.1M refurbishment of our ballroom, giving the space a brand-new neutral and fresh look and feel that suits all styles of weddings and events. In March 2021, we completed the largest waterpark expansion in history, making Atlantis Aquaventure the biggest waterpark in the world. This is an experience that all guests at the Atlantis receive complimentarily and is such a fun ‘day after’ to a wedding celebration. Atlantis also recently launched the region’s only licensed nail salon Nailology, which is the perfect size for a private event such as a bridal shower; the space can also be completely customized.

Based on your current booking, what are the new trends you are seeing in 2021-22 weddings?
Because of the pandemic, understandably, bookings are quite last minute, and couples are looking for the flexibility of final numbers as people’s travel plans can inevitably change. This is where Atlantis can support as our main ballroom can be split into five sections, making it a flexible space.
We’re also seeing what I like to call ‘revenge bookings’, whereby couples have waited such a long time to get married and have had longer to save and therefore have a much bigger budget than perhaps they would have prior. Even the smaller weddings have bigger budgets than we’ve previously seen.
What is your current booking flexibility?
Our current policy is to look at every booking individually and offer as much flexibility as we’re able to do. For weddings, there is never one size that fits all templates, and all guests have different needs, so we endeavor to be as supportive of this as possible.

How is the new Atlantis ballroom different from before?
With the theme of the design inspired by the sea, the rippling patterns in the water set the theme for the new look, which runs through the carpet, the lighting and the door design. The Lost City of Atlantis also served as a source of inspiration with the color scheme based on translucent turquoise waters, luminous colored coral and glistening fluid forms. The space is also home to embossed champagne metal-paneled doors with coral patterns, with a lighting set up which comprises a mix of floating fans of coral, cascading sea urchin wall lights and a school of fish chandeliers.
Recognizing the importance of delivering unique experiences, we also worked with the world’s leading Audio-Visual suppliers to ensure that we remain at the forefront of smart technology with access to the best equipment in the market. As well as state-of-the-art facilities, we have a highly-skilled technical team on the ground, making anything possible from a production point of view.

What is the hotel doing to ensure the health and safety of its guests?
Since the reopening of the city to tourists in 2020, with the support of Dubai Tourism and the authorities, we put all of our focus into ensuring Atlantis was setting the benchmark in maintaining the highest level of precautionary health and safety measures for our guests for stays and events. We were one of the first destinations in the region to offer in-resort PCR testing for guests, and we were amongst the first hotels and resorts in the world to become Sharecare Health Security VERIFIED® with Forbes Travel Guide.
We’ve also endeavored to be early adopters of various measures to ensure travel to and from Atlantis is as straightforward and hassle-free as possible. For example, for guests who stay with us five nights or more, we provide a free COVID-19 PCR test, or we allow them to claim back the cost of their test as in-resort credit. We are the only resort in the city to offer something of this nature to guests.

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding in 2021-22
Demand is at an all-time high and over the next year the destination will be very busy, so book early to avoid disappointment. I would also recommend that for couples planning a destination wedding, it’s important to choose easily accessible destinations and look for venues that put the highest level of Covid protocols in place. A venue with a flexible capacity is also something you should look for.
